A - Very white head, about a finger tall. Body is moderately cloudy and a yellow/orange mix. Not much lacing.

S - A little odd and not what I was expecting. Very sweet on the orange and lemon side. A little artificial. Really just tons of sweet citrus.

T - Again, lots of citrus, but still very sweet. Orange and grapefruit, but not sour. Pretty nice, just not what I was expecting from the style. Would be a great summer beer - refreshing on a hot day. Some green apple peel.

M - Tons of carbonation and light body.

O - A pretty good beer, but not sour enough for me on the wild side. We'll see how this develops in the bottle.

Pored from 750 ml. Bottle into Sam Adams glass. Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a generous bubbly head. Dissipates quickly with minimal lacing.

Smell is malt, lemons, alcohol and mild funk.

Taste is malt, lemons, alcohol and slight bit of sour on the end.

Mouthful is substantial, nicely carbonated.

Overall I was expecting more sour from the wild ale, but a nice tase similar to a Belgian double.

Sierra Nevada/Russian River collaboration... Gimme, gimme, gimme.

Served in a Troegs "Mad Elf" snifter.

A: Poured an orange color, with a slight bit of cloudiness, and only a very small head (if you call it that).

S: Well, I could tell it was a Wild Ale, but it didn't have that milkiness that people generally associate with this style. Still, it was good... and I got a bit of pepper in there as well.

T: Man, this sucker needed more vingary, soury goodness. However, I'm cognizant of the true craft it took to make this, so I'll give it a break. Seriously, it tasted like a beer... not a sour.

M: Usually when reviewing this style, I turn to "vingariness, acidity, etc.), however, this was almost like a Brett infused pale ale or something. WTF? Not lacing.

O: Who wouldn't get excited about this sort of collaboration? However, I still feel honored to actually be able to get a Russian River brew in my area.

Poured into a tulip.

3.0 A: Clear light orange color. Two plus fingers of foamy white head. Retention is below average and no lacing is left.

3.5 S: Pear, light lemon, and apple fruits. Mustiness with cobwebs, dry wood, and old socks. Grassy with hay and wildflower herbalness. Pleasant with good funk and aromas, but needs more power and depth.

3.5 T: Lots more funk than the nose let on. Pear and red apple are the strongest fruits, but pear reigns supreme. There isn't much lemon in the taste. The mustiness is there, but most of the funk is herbal in nature. In fact, it's too herbal. It has a bitterness that can only be described as an "herbal bitterness," like if you just gnawed on couple spoonfuls of oregano or something. This is pretty damn dry. Anyway, lots of brett character for how young it is.

3.5 M: Lighter body. Carbonation is a bit explosive in the mouth, but it's just barely this way. For the most part I don't have trouble drinking it. Spritzy, but not creamy. Not bad.

3.5 D: It's good, but the existence of Orval assures that I won't need to buy another bottle of this, though I wouldn't mind seeing how this ages. Give it a try.

Pours a light orange, nectarine color. Not really hazy, but opaque because the continually rising bubbles kind of get in the way. A finger and a half of white, uniformly small bubbles form the head. Good retention, it's been in my snifter for over five minutes and the head is still there.

The Brett dominates and I'm ok with that. Funky is the only way to describe it. Pear, green apple and some white pepper fill out the card.

Everything in the nose makes its way to the tongue. The Brett yeast is the star, with supporting roles by the pear, green apple, and pepper. Very spicy finish, along with some cut grass.

It's very, very dry. Fairly spicy finish. A bit tart. Funky. Almost sweet at the beginning, but that peters out quickly. Medium bodied and relatively easy to drink, despite the high ABV.

A heavy-weight collaboration by two beers gods from the States. It doesn't disappoint. A bit expensive at $15 a bottle (at least in Indiana that's expensive), but actually worth it.

Beer is orange in colour. A small white head disappears immediately and completely.

Brett sticks out in the nose, funky. Some light fruit scents: apple, pear. Nice.

Flavour-wise, the beer is bone dry with a strong spice flavour. Brett is clearly present, giving a bit of funk. Some fruit flavours, mainly green apple. No real tartness, perhaps very mildly.

Medium bodied, very highly carbonated. Irritating and makes it a bit hard to drink.

Overall, not great but it has some good qualities.

750ml bottle into a Duvel tulip.

A: Slightly hazed orange-amber body under a super dense head of creamy white foam. Very light lace. Ok.

S: Powerfully sweet, complex fruitiness. Tropical fruit, pear, apple, and cotton candy. Very nice, enchanting fruity funk. Green apple, green onion, goodness.

T: Citrus, pear, apple, funky hay, and bread. Really good.

M: Lively, frothy, lightly prickly. Very effervescent.

O: I didn't know exactly what to expect based on what some of my friends had told me about this beer, but I really liked it. The nose in particular was enthralling, as its green apple funkiness in particular reminded me of an authentic Lambic. I wish it had been as sour as one, but it was delightful in its own way. I can't wait to see what a year or two does to my other bottle.

A - this wild ale pours a hazy pale golden yellow color with moderate amounts of carbonation feeding a big head that does fade quickly

S - a marvelous big sour funky aroma, not super funky like a real powerful La Folie type sour, but funky, sour, and whetting nonetheless

T - clear grapeskin flavors, combined with granny smith apples and champagne grapes in particular. Funky and yeasty like the aroma, with the added bonus of slight hop profile towards the end

M&D - super dry and fizzy, some distinct champagne elements, effervescent on the tongue, a decent brew, but not indicative of how sour the style can and usually does get

Orange in body color with a fluffy white head. Head rises and falls quickly.

Smells bugged with orange and lemon. Not picking up much tartness.. Bready, funky, and sticky.

Lots of dry sticky pear. Brett stands out. No tartness, unfortunately. High carbonation with nice sweetness.

I couldn't drink much of this, but it's very nice for an Sierra Nevada Collab. I wish RR would have taken the upper hand.. Recommended, just not in large quantities.

"Fresh" baseline review.

Golden-orange color with several minutes' worth of off-white soapy head that leaves behind minimal lacing on the glass. Vigorous champagne-like carbonation bubbles over a light and buoyant body texture. It feels... summery.

Smells mostly of tart green apple, pears, lemon peel, and a dash of florals and Brett Yeast aroma / tiny amount of funk... Tastes primarily like a green papaya salad on top of a thin slice of raw rustic bread. There is also a touch of granny smith, herbals, and the Brux barnyard *is* present, albeit at very light and restrained levels...to the point that this brew could barely be considered "funky" at all, except to Brett neophytes who haven't jaded their palates yet.

In that regards, it could very well serve as a good introduction to light, accessible amounts of Brett for your friends... but if you are expecting a -challenging- Brett presence, you will be sorely disappointed. Time will only tell if this develops for the better in the cellar.
