This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

This unique take on the traditional IPA style pairs the bold and intense aromas of whole-cone hop "flowers" with aromatic natural rose hips and petals for complex aromas and unexpected flavors.

Pours a perfect light amber/red/golden color with a creamy off white substantial head that lasts.
Bouquet is of hops, citrus, grapefruit and a splash off a wild cottage garden flower bed.

The initial taste was very crisp, not very full bodied, so the hops come out a little strong and a tad bitter. The mouthful was somewhat thin. I think if it was a little bigger in body, then the mouthful would have been fine and the hops and body would have balanced one another.

Still another enjoyable brew from Sierra....

Good job in this year's Beer Camp #53... I will be tasting and reviewing the rest shortly

Pours copper with a thick, white head. Lacing is minimal, which is kind of surprising given the huge and overall pretty sustainable head. The nose is full of fruit and citrus - I'm actually picking up hints of Fruity Pebbles. Bits of pine and resin in the back of the nose to bring it all together. The taste is full of hops up front, pines, resiny oils, and a big push of citrus coming up the back end - grapefruit and pineapple are the most noticeable. As the beers mellows in the mouth, the malt backbone comes alive with a slight biscuity taste. A touch of sweetness and a lot of bitterness finish off the aftertaste. The beer has a medium, sticky body with lots of carbonation.

Overall, a decent IPA. Not amazing, not great, but good. I probably won't go out of my way to get this beer again, but I wouldn't turn it down if offered.

12 ounce bottle

Pours hazed, lighter amber. Nice frothy off white head. Leaves ample scattered lacing.

Pungent nose of resin infused hops and yes flowery notes.

Tasty, quite fresh and enjoyable IPA. More fresh tasting hops, pleasing on the palate. Hop resins blending nicely with more soft and lightly spicy hops. A sweat, flowery note in the finish. Nice...worth a try

Color is golden with floating particles. Smell is a flower garden. Taste is a dirty flower garden. Wouldn't try again,This IPA pours a medium orange gold color from the tap. Small to medium sized white foamy head with good retention and nicer lacing. The aroma is floral and citrusy. A medium bodied IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are floral and citrusy. Good carbonation. Medium bitterness, but the bitterness tends to linger. Nice clean and crisp IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Imperial Pint.

Appearance: Amber orange with off-white head and not as much lacing as most SN beers.

Smell: Dry toasted malts, nondescript bitter hops. Smells like an average English IPA.

Taste: Tastes like an English IPA too, but a pretty good one. Dry toasted, almost tea-like, malts, with nice balance from spicy, floral hops. Slight citrus. The roses comes through on the long bitter finish.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body, dry finish.

Overall: Despite a weak aroma, this is a very solid English IPA with some extra floralness from the roses. I wonder if the current lackluster scores are due to this having been incorrectly entered as an American IPA (at least as of my review). SN even calls this a "unique take on a tradional IPA"; the word "traditional" is a clue that this is more English styled. Edit: changed to English IPA.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. From the 2012 Beer Camp pack.

Appearance: Pours a deep and somewhat hazy copper amber orange. Lots of rising bubbles and a huge six finger off white creamy head with good retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A lively aroma that is hop forward with solid bready malt undertones. Solid scent of citrus hops upfront with hints of grapefruit, orange peel, and lemon. Very floral with a nice mix of herbal and grassy hops. Quite a bit of pine resin spice. A pretty good malt balance with good hints of caramel, toffee, lightly toasted bread, cracker, and biscuit. A pretty solid mix of hop esters and malts.

Taste: Like smell suggests, hop forward with solid citrus esters and big on the floral elements. Starts with some ripe citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, oranges, pineapple, and lemon zest. Big floral taste from the hips and petals. Lots of spice from some resinous hops. Fairly grassy. Solid malt backbone with notes of toasted bread, caramel, toffee, biscuit, and crackers. The earthy/floral notes and pine spice stand out the most here. Nice and tasty.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Somewhat chewy with a lingering spice from the resin. Pretty smooth.

Overall: A pretty nice take on a IPA. Not a big citrus bomb like most West Coast styles. Big spice and floral taste. Interesting and good tasting.

A 12oz bottle with no visible BB date. Purchased a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. Presumably a brewing competition entry; the label describes it as an IPA infused with rose hips and petals.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A cloudy sunset-amber hue with visible sediment and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of frothy white foam that lasts for a while before reducing to a surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of fruity hops with hints of grapefruit, citrus and pine. This is underpinned by sweet caramel malt, earthy yeast and mild herbal notes. Pretty good, though not much in the way of roses.

Tastes of caramel malt with a hoppy character and a bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, pine resin, subtle orange peel, citrus, mild herbs, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Dry, with a faint malty sweetness. A strident, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and possesses a herbal dryness. Decent body and carbonation. Rather astringent, with an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, stewed herbs and faint caramel.

A decent brew, even if it doesn't quite live up to its name. Bit too much fluffy sediment in the bottle. Nice hoppy aroma and flavour, with nondescript hints of herbs/herbal bitterness coming through. Body is OK. Can't say that the rose petals are discernible, but maybe I held on to it for too long. However, it's perfectly drinkable on its own terms. Worth sampling.

12 oz bottle served in a snifter.

Pours a clear but slightly hazy golden-amber color. The off-white head is moderate in size but has weak retention.

Aroma: a complex mix of herbal, fruity and floral notes.

T: More floral notes here than in the nose where they are rather subtle. Enough malt to add a lightly bready base and tame the bitterness to some degree. The herbal and fruit characters are present here too, along with a sense this was made with mineral water. Moderately bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: medium body and carbonation; semi-dry finish. More crisp than smooth.

Overall: an interesting IPA. I certainly prefer some other SN IPAs such as Torpedo, but then this is an English style version whereas I tend to prefer the American style IPAs. Still, a well-crafted IPA that is worth seeking out.

Big off white head settles into a decent lacing with a nice bisquity mound in the middle of the glass above a clear golden copper colored beer.

Big floral hops with an added citrus and piney hops aroma.

Decent floral hops bite with bits of added citrus fruit and earthy pine hops taste.

A light citrus and piney hops dry aftertaste on this medium body IPA.

A decent IPA but really Happy Camper has nothing to worry about with this one.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a slightly hazy amber with a puffy 2 finger slightly yellowed head. Head becomes rocky as it dissipates, leaving some nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Some small floating particles in the body.

S: As the name implies, a nice floral hoppy aroma. Malts add some dark fruits but they take a back seat. Very fresh smelling.

T: Starts with some great floral, resiny piney and bitter hops. Great focus on this aspect of the hop, malts and other flavors are present but hidden in the background.

M: Medium bodied, ample carbonation. Doesn't leave any unwanted stickiness in your mouth.

Overall another great IPA from Sierra Nevada. They certainly know how to kick some ass in this style. Glad I was able to pick this one up fresh. Would recommend to any IPA fan.
