Finally ponied up the $10 for the 4-pack for a Christmas party.
That ABV is pretty insane.
Label art is awesome.
Sweet malt smell out of bottle.
Poured into glass, head is brown, modest but present.
Colors are black with hint of reddish tinge at the bottom of the glass.
Smell out of glass is sweet malt.
First taste is chocolate coffee.
Smooth feel. Later bitterness near back of mouth. The alcohol could be overpowering, but I think the nuttiness reels it in, Feels thick with out being too thick. The bubbles feel micro. Seems to suggest a long time in the carbonation stage? The carbonation seems more infused with the beer. Maybe this is just an effect of the thickness of the drink.
I understand this is an Imperial Stout, and I know how well stouts are loved on this site, but it's not my favorite style. I can't give this a 5 until I try more stouts. I still like Hopworks Belgian Style Abbey and Optimator better...
