12oz bottle poured into a unibrue snifter

A- pours a black as night color... big thick khaki colored head...fades to a bubbly ring around the glass... leaving smears of lace to the glass

S- whiffs of bitter sweet chocolate, slight burnt charred ... roasted coffee grains, a smeel that reminds me of a slight perique tobacco

T- slighty like the smell... big bold flavors of bakers chocolate, bitter coffee, slight bitter burnt tobacco leaf... huge hop bitterness

M- smooth and creamy... oily body due to the minimal carbonation... big hop bitterness that leads for dry bitter finish, cleans up nicely

O- I've been waiting for this to be delivered into my store ... and only 3 cases made into our county ... this doesn't disappoint... maybe my new favorite RIS, well done sierra

Copied from Beer_Runner... Couldn't have said it better myself... (Although I poured aggressively and got about a finger and a half of Khaki head (Great Lacing!). I was told from someone at Amity Wine and Spirit that it had a stronger hoppiness to it, however, I didn't really pick up on it, although he said it was prominent only when the beer was cold. I had it at cellar temp, leaving me to believe I only tasted the robust stout/porter tastes associated from the beer.

A: An aggressive pour into a standard pint glass produced about half a finger of espresso creama colored head that was very dense. The head is fairly robust and lasted through about half of the glass and left a good lacing. The beer is a midnight black, and light will not even think about passing through it.

S: The aroma is a rich blend of strong, dark roasted coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and roasted barley. There is also some earthy hops making its way into the mix.

T: The taste begins with a big shot of strong coffee along with unsweetened chocolate and roasted barley. Very quickly bold, earthy hops and then some spicy hops join in for a west coast flair.

M: The beer has a heavy and full body that is very smooth and creamy. It feels thick and leaves a slick coating. All-in-all, it has a very satisfying feel.

O: A top notch imperial stout. The coffee, chocolate, and roasted barley flavors mix well together and provide a solid backbone to balance the earthy and spicy hops. It is a fairly complex tasting beer, but each element has its own characteristics, and together they create a bold and pleasing imperial stout.

Poured into a Ninkasi Brewing pint glass. No readable freshness date.

A- Pours a densely opaque black color with a 1/4 inch light brown head that doesn't retain long before it becomes a thin ring around the edge of the glass and some light, wispy surface foam. Average lacing.

S- Dark chocolate and some roasty char aroma. Also a hint of vanilla and some molasses.

T- Packs a punch of dark roasted malt and plenty of hop bitterness. Alcohol is very subdued though and there are more notes of dark chocolate, molasses and black licorice. Aftertaste is bitter and heavy with more roast.

M- Creamy and chewy with medium-low carbonation and the most robust of bodies. So thick and dark, I feel like it's gonna stain my teeth and make me instantly gain five pounds.

O- What a bold offering from SN. It's sure to please stout lovers everywhere. I guess they figured, why mess around with dainty versions of the style? Go for the jugular! I'm glad they did. Great price tag for a 4-pack of high ABV beer, too.

A: Pours a deep black with darker coffee colored head. Not a lot of head and it fades quickly.

S: Smells great. Toffee sweet smell with a lot of roasted malts. Some alcohol but not overwhelming.

T: Starts off bitter for a RIS but it's not bad at all. Alcohol tastes is masked very well. Tastes just like it smells, roasted malts with a hint of coffee in the aftertaste.

M: More carbonation than i'd like, but still very smooth.

O: It's solid. To be readily available this one is a beer I'll go back to again. Very affordable and available. I think a BBA version of this would be phenomenal. Bravo Sieera Nevada, this is quality beer.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled November 2nd 2012.

A: Pours a real dark black with a 1 very dense finger khaki head. Dissipates over a minute or two leaving a thin film. No real lacing. Light barely gets through the edges.

S: Real nice dark chocolaty malt along with a sweet dark fruitiness. Can get some booze.

T: Real nice blend of chocolate malts, vanilla and a great roastiness. Little bit of bite from the alcohol but works. Raisin and fig from the malts also a coffeeish taste.

M: Smooth and velvety with a nice full body. Appropriate carbonation for the style. Could enjoy sipping on these all night.

Overall great bold stout from Sierra Nevada. Glad they are offering another stout as I've always enjoyed their other one. Hopefully I can manage to save one of these for a year.
