A-Black in the glass with a two finger brow head

S-Maple, which is on the border of too sweet, chocolate as well. Little to no barrel character and coffee are present.

T-Maple. Mainly maple. It seems to dominate the other flavors. The barrel and coffee are unable to come out as much as they should.

M-Lighter to medium for the style.

O-It was still a good beer, but if the maple could have been balanced out a little more, it would have been great.

poured from 750ml bottle.

A- A beautiful frothy black hue with a quick khaki head

S- Bourbon, Maple Syrup and a rich coffee back. Wow!

T- Follows nose. So smooth and elegant. The Bourbon comes through on the finish while the coffee and maple play nicely up front.

M- Nice strong body and perfect carbonation.

O- I wish it wasn't only 1 per person at the release because I would love to see what this baby does with some age. With that said it was a true treat and I want more! ISO!

This pours a dark cola color with thin foam. It comes off with a big boozy aroma, like a shot of bourbon-infused maple syrup. The flavor has a sharp roast and a heavy booziness. More maple with bourbon, but it felt too hot for my tastes. I imagine with some more time things would mellow out and hope to revisit this one to confirm my suspicions.

Bottle shared by Siearra Nevada rep. (thanks!) at RBWG-2014.
Black with brown edges and a fine head. Glass coated with thick tan foam with each tilt.

Thick and smooth but a little hot (too fresh)
Aroma has a nice balance of maple, bourbon barrel, and dark malts.

Someone brought an unlabeled bottle of this to Zwanze Day. Thanks! Served in the accompanying Cantillon glass.

A - Tan foam settles to a thick collar and some splotches of lace. Near-black body with some transparency at the edges.

S - Lots of maple, and hefty doses of whiskey and oak as well, although the base beer is more charry and roasty than I was expecting from Sierra Nevada. There's a mild savory character that's unexpected and doesn't mesh quite well with the rest of the elements. Apparently there's coffee in here, so I guess that explains the former.

T - The taste is a fair bit sweeter, with a nice mixture of maple, vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. The whiskey presence is lighter here, and there's some mild smoke and roast. Less charry than the nose, and not much roast bitterness in the finish.

M - Sticky, viscous, and chewy, with lower carbonation. Some tannis, but maple stickiness appears to have largely overwhelmed the oak. No alcohol heat, which is impressive considering the high ABV.

D - The aroma is a bit boozy, but the taste is quite excellent. A tasty treat that I hope Sierra Nevada makes again in greater quantities. A definite sipper, but a rich, complex and tasty one.
