Bottle poured into a Duvel tulip
A- A liberal pour made a 2-finger khaki head. Clean, dark red-brown body (auburn, chestnut?). Awesome sticky webbing left on the glass. Good retention, maybe 1/2 finger in places, less dense in others.
S- Hoppy at first, grassy with tropical fruit. Underlying sweet malts. A deeper inspection yields citrus and toasted grains.
T- Pretty complex. Citrus and tropical fruit mixed with caramel/toffee and toasted grains. Just when I think it's going to end sweet, it gets a hoppy, dry finish with an herbal/grassy quality.
M- Medium body and carbonation. Dry finish.
O- I like the idea of pairing this with a caramel dessert as suggested on the SN website, and did to great effect with my wife's caramel/chocolate/cookie concoction. I enjoy the balance of the beer. Good early fall beer as marketed. Procured as a party leftover, I'd pay to drink it again.

This American Amber or Red Ale, is a interesting combination of beers styles that i approve of, though i am not a beer chemist, it sparked me to call a friend of mine who is, to have them explain this flavor to me. It is defiantly better then i thought it would be, although I had no idea what to expect from a 'red ipa' i was impressed with Sierra Nevada's Flipside. Its smokey dark appearance was a interesting factor, but its smell, was the sort of beer I wish they would bottle and smell as an AXE body spray. The mouth feel and taste where both outstanding in my opinion and I did really like this beer.
