12oz bottle poured into a tulip.
A: Deep, dark ruby red with lots of bubbles dancing around the glass. Huge pillow of soft and super sticky white head; lots and lots of lacing. Very nice looking.
S: Grassy hops, citrus, typical malt aromas for a hoppy red beer but turned up a few notches.
T: Bitter oranges, sweet and tangy malts, very floral, herbal bitterness.
M: Medium-high carbonation with a long and nicely bitter finish.
O: Considering I dislike amber beers and amber IPAs, this is pretty damn good. It has a nice bitterness/citrus balance, but I find this style (red IPAs) to have a sort of abrasive aspect to it. Definitely worth trying, but the fact that it's knocking out Tumbler as the autumn seasonal greatly disappoints me. As a red IPA, this is pretty decent, but as a fall seasonal? Give me a nice toasty brown ale please.

This American Amber or Red Ale, is a interesting combination of beers styles that i approve of, though i am not a beer chemist, it sparked me to call a friend of mine who is, to have them explain this flavor to me. It is defiantly better then i thought it would be, although I had no idea what to expect from a 'red ipa' i was impressed with Sierra Nevada's Flipside. Its smokey dark appearance was a interesting factor, but its smell, was the sort of beer I wish they would bottle and smell as an AXE body spray. The mouth feel and taste where both outstanding in my opinion and I did really like this beer.
