A - poured a dark ruby red, amber highlights, one finger creamy white head. Had died to a nice thin film with light lacing. Looks great.

S - lots of hop aromas, earthy mostly with fruity citrus and grass. Sweet malt notes and a pepper yeast bouquet.

T - subdued flavor hop profile, is there with some fruityness and earth tones, but is more malt forward with a nice biscuity, bready character which is quickly followed with a bite of Bittering hops. Has a nice peppery yeast character at the end. Leaves a lasting aftertaste that is very enjoyable.

M - light to medium in body with good amount of carbonation. As mentioned under taste there is a nice aftertaste. It's also crisp and warming, despite only ~6% abv, maybe it's the bitterness, but this would be really good sitting out on the porch on a crisp fall evening.

O - mixed feeling of this. Red IPA I would expect more hop flavor upfront, I know traditionally a red ale will lack late addition flavoring hops, but if you slap the word IPA on it, I expect it. It does have some but just not what I was thinking. Beyond that it tastes great, the Bittering is huge and refreshing.

12 ounce bottle - $1.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a tawny, rust-toned body with a smallish, near white head. Light haze. Little lacing.

Smell: Predominately hoppy, notes of grapefruit, additional oily citrus and even a sliver of mango. Rather grassy with pine-hinting resins. Underneath, a little basic toast and grain.

Taste: Toasted breadcrusts, touches of grain and a low, brief caramel-esque sweetness. Very, very faint unsweetened chocolate powder. Sharp, citric grapefruit and orangy kicks with a leisurely bitterness. Moderately resinous, grassy. Pulls up on the grassy, resiny tones at the tail end and into the bitter, drying finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: It's red, it's bitter. I was fine with it.

Pours into a standard pint glass a deep amber/tawny with a great looking billowing light beige head atop, great color and a great head,it just looks like fall.Aromas of citric hops and nutty malt with light caramel sweetness. The palate is alot like aromas with a good shot of citric hops intertwined with nutty maltiness with a little brown sugar in the finish.A solid hoppy amber ale,I could drink quite a few of these this fall.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark ruby amber with a huge rocky off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet caramel and toffee malt with some rye and some light resin hops.

The flavor is sweet nutty toffee malts with some piney resiny hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, more of a hoppy nutty amber than what I would call an IPA of any color.

The Beers of California

Bottled Date: 9/18/13

A: Hazy amber red with a billowy tan head of foam

S: Subdued overall the nose is of earth with some brown sugar along with pine needles, dankness, and hints of spice.

T: Thick, chewy malt breadiness with burnt sugar and strong earthiness. The hops are dank and somewhat piney. The finish is spicy bitter with minimal alcohol.

M: Medium and syrupy as any good IPA. Good supporting carbonation.

O: Good maltiness paired with earthy hops. Appropriate for the fall season. An above average Red IPA but not quite a fridge staple.
