Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a deep caramel amber red with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid two fingers of off white head with decent retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.
Smell: A juicy and earthy hop forward aroma with hints of citrus and earthy hops with a good balance of caramel malt. Upfront presence of earthy, floral, and herbal hops with hints of pine resin and grass. Citrus hop hints of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, melon, and tangerine. Big sweet and bready toasted malt presence with hints of caramel, toffee, biscuit, grain, cracker, yeast, and a slight roasty scent. A well balanced and good aroma.
Taste: Like the aroma, a fairly hop forward but well balanced taste of earthy and citrus hops with toasty caramel malt. Very earthy upfront with floral and herbal hop notes of pine and grass. Juicy citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, lemon, and melon. Big toasted malt balance with a taste of sweet caramel, toffee, biscuit, yeast, grains, cracker, toast, and a light note of roast chocolate. Very well balanced. A pretty good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nicely chewy and slightly oily. Finishes pretty dry.
Overall: A pretty solid take on a red ale. Good mix of upfront hop esters with a good balance of toasty caramel malt.
