For such a beautiful beer, Flipside is rather whimsically named.
The pour leaves a glowing, rusty auburn body upon which sits a fluffy, white head with outstanding retention and thick lacing.
The aroma hits fast and hard, and it's almost all citrus. Grapefruit, maybe raspberries atop faint pine.
As expected, the roasted malts hit first, but they're quickly overpowered by the citrus, to the point that I'm having trouble putting a description to them. Rye bread, maybe?
The label describes the hop citrus as 'tropical,' but I get more grapefruit than dragon fruit. It's rare that I say this about a Sierra Nevada brew but the malts and hop combination didn't work for me. It felt out of balance.
The mouthfeel was thinner than I expected, and though I got plenty of piney resin, I was happy it didn't stick for long.
A six dressed up as a nine, it's far from my favorite SN seasonal.
