Saw this arriving at my local and decided I would grab a fresh 6-pack to try. Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Dogfish Head shaped pint glass.
Rust to burnt orange body with flame highlights and good clarity capped by a mountainous active rocky head of merengue. Superior retention, messy/sticky lacing.
Moderately resinous aroma with a bit of toast and caramel from the malt. The hop aromas mingle, presenting at times like spiced apricots, though there is a faintly woodsy scent as well. Pine, rose pedals, and saffron are hinted at was well. Solid, but rather mild.
Leafy, dry, slightly toasty palate entry with a touch of orange, guava, and pine throughout. Earthy, vaguely spicy finish with a hint of stale cocoa. Starts off well, but simply dries up, never really delivering the full flavor it seems to initially hint at. Moderate bitterness most of the time.
Soft creamy mouthfeel; medium-light bodied but with a crisp invigorating snap and a touch of oil as well.
A nice, rather easy drinking amber ale - but it falters with compared with a slightly bigger ale along similar lines, such as Hop Head Red.

This American Amber or Red Ale, is a interesting combination of beers styles that i approve of, though i am not a beer chemist, it sparked me to call a friend of mine who is, to have them explain this flavor to me. It is defiantly better then i thought it would be, although I had no idea what to expect from a 'red ipa' i was impressed with Sierra Nevada's Flipside. Its smokey dark appearance was a interesting factor, but its smell, was the sort of beer I wish they would bottle and smell as an AXE body spray. The mouth feel and taste where both outstanding in my opinion and I did really like this beer.
