Poured from a stamp-coded 12 oz. bottle: clear, deep red to burgundy with a beige and foamy sustained head. Sierra Nevada certainly knows how to create a beautiful beer.
The aroma surprised me as the bottle stated this was brewed with whole-cone citra, simcoe and centennial hops. The aroma was largely sweet and perfumy like a malt accented amber; it was still desirable but not what one would expect.
In the flavor profile, the hops shine a little. The initial flavor accents a very nice and somewhat thick malt that is followed by a pleasantly bitter but indistinct hop profile. As the ale warms in the glass, you can detect some of the piney flavors but the fruity aspect one normally finds with the citra hop is difficult to discern. Still, the flavor is satisfying.
The ale has a medium body with a slightly thick mouthfeel from the malt with some lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue. The zesty carbonation keeps the ale lively and refreshing.
Another solid offering from Sierra Nevada, but not very distinctive. I prefer the Tumbler over this one. I would consider this more of a hoppy amber style than an IPA, but styles are open to some interpretation. Overall, this is worth trying.

This American Amber or Red Ale, is a interesting combination of beers styles that i approve of, though i am not a beer chemist, it sparked me to call a friend of mine who is, to have them explain this flavor to me. It is defiantly better then i thought it would be, although I had no idea what to expect from a 'red ipa' i was impressed with Sierra Nevada's Flipside. Its smokey dark appearance was a interesting factor, but its smell, was the sort of beer I wish they would bottle and smell as an AXE body spray. The mouth feel and taste where both outstanding in my opinion and I did really like this beer.
