Turned the bottle upside down a little too quick and the last bit chugged out, forming a huge creamy fluffy 2+ finger head that fades semi quickly then slows to a slow fade, leaves lots of soapy lacing, mostly clear slight hazy copper auburn brown color.
Nose brings lots of hops as in usual Sierra Nevada fashion, some pine, mild resin, grassy and earthy, hint of citrus, bit spicy and chewy like. Then malts, nice candy reddish slightly toasty malt, possibly syrupy, little caramel, touch of fresh wort.
Taste starts with malts, a little creamy like oats, toasty reddish malts, little candy like but not really syrupy and just a touch sweet, little bit like creamed caramels, reddish candy. Then lots hops, quite a bit of pine and spicy hops, little chewy, hint fruity hop but not really citrus maybe a hint of zest, fairly bitter overall. Just a bit of dark fruit too interestingly and touch of brown sugar. Finish is still a bit sweet, more candy and reddish malts lingering, long lingering spicy slight pine hop bitterness.
Mouth is med to a bit bigger bod, nice carb, little creamy.
Overall not bad, nice malt character, decent hop profile and good balance, I like the way the caramel creams and candy malt flavours mix with the spicy slight pine hops, and the strange but interesting dark fruit like characters.pretty tasty but nothing too special as there isn't much you can do more with the style.

This American Amber or Red Ale, is a interesting combination of beers styles that i approve of, though i am not a beer chemist, it sparked me to call a friend of mine who is, to have them explain this flavor to me. It is defiantly better then i thought it would be, although I had no idea what to expect from a 'red ipa' i was impressed with Sierra Nevada's Flipside. Its smokey dark appearance was a interesting factor, but its smell, was the sort of beer I wish they would bottle and smell as an AXE body spray. The mouth feel and taste where both outstanding in my opinion and I did really like this beer.
