Poured into a standard 12-oz mug, this beer is a nice clear deep mahogany red color with a decent, airy head atop it. The aroma smells appropriately hoppy, with plenty of gassy, alpine notes. The malt doesn't contribute much to the smell. Flavor offers a lot of bitterness and hop flavor similar to the Torpedo line. It's clean and very dry. Malt takes a back seat, but gives some light toasty notes.

Enjoyable, drinkable beer but it doesn't really stand out in any way.

Pours a clear light amber with a finger and a half of tan head. Nice lacing.

Smell is grapefruit, pine (smells really similar to Torpedo)... notes of orange, lemon and herbal hop come through in the finish.

Taste is lemon upfront, orange, resiny pine, caramel malt, herbal hops, lime, grapefruit, chewy bisquit or bready malt. finishes with bitter pine hops.

Mouthfeel is pretty full for the abv, chewy but dry and crisp in the finish, very interesting.

Well a very interesting beer, will enjoy this 6er that is for sure.... I will say that upon first sip it does have that "Hey its a SN hoppy Beer aroma and taste! Flavor"... But when something works why change it???

A-Pours a crystal clear rich copper color with a huge off white very persistent creamy head that has excellent retention and lacing.
S-Smells like fall. Smells toasty and malty with a hefty hop aroma akin to pine trees. The floral and citrus notes from the hop are definitely over power by the earthy pinynotes. I think for the perfect setting to drink this beer would be walking through a forest of old tall pine trees on a cool fall afternoon.
T-The flavor mimics the aroma with a noticeable maltiness and a hefty kick of earthy piney resiny hops. There is a huge bitterness that lingers long into the finish. There is also some biscut notes I pick up from the grains used.
M-Big, chewy mouthfeel with a very bitter clean finish. Plenty of carbonation to keep every thing in check. Definitely chewy.
O-I have mix thoughts about this beer. On one hand being a hop lover I enjoyed this beer pretty well. On the other hand this is a beer strickly for hop heads. I think this one would not be recommened for the average newby craft beer lover. The bitterness level kind of almost over takes everything, but for a hop head like myself, I would recommend them trying it for sure.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 8/16/2013. Pours lightly cloudy light ruby red color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, mango, pineapple, lemon zest, orange zest, caramel, toast, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity of hop notes with a moderate malt balance; and solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, caramel, toast, floral, grass, pine, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus zest, mango, pineapple, caramel, toast, floral, grass, and pine on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, smooth, and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice IPA. Very nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and extremely crisp and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

aroma - this is good, nothing aggressively hoppy. good earthy aroma. malt dominant considering that it's a west-coast IPA. Caramel notes. Citra hop aroma (grapefruit/orange/citrus) with a piney, Simcoey note.

middle - definite hop presence consistent with IPA, but the unique aspects of this beer are the caramelly sweet and bready malt notes and an earthy yeasty flavor. The middle reminds you of an Arrogant Bastard with less aggressive flavors and sweeter, more balanced roundness. Centennial and simcoe hop flavor hits you first then a balanced carmelly malt note sneaks in.

Mouthfeel - The best part of this beer. molassassly, caramel, maple syrupy mouthfeel with a sharp bitter coating on the gums and teeth enamel. The caramel/molassas is, however, the differentiating factor

finish - mostly floral hop notes. The effect on the finish of the malt is a sweetness that works with the hop bitterness to create an orange flavor that is awesome.

overall - this beer gets better with each one I drink. This is a well thought out recipe with good balance. Slightly above average beer. This won't win any medals or break down barriers but it is superior in quality as you should expect from sierra nevada.

not worth going out of your way for but it will not disappoint! cheers

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

A: Light head. Clear maple.

S: Light and toasted malt. Amells like an amber ale.

T: Tastes like a lager with a kick. Not very hoppy except right at the end. Kind of dry. Amber ale.

M: Kind of refreshing.

O: Tastes sort of like SNPA with more lagerish yeast and amber malt. Not great.

Color is a dark amber red with a soapy white 2 finger head
Aroma is of citrus, pine, sweet smelling and very inviting
Not as bitter as I anticipated and very floral flavor.
Very malty and a touch of burnt caramel with flavors of pine
Perfect example of a red ipa. Wish I had a few more.
