A- pours a clear dark-amber color with a big two-finger foamy off-white head, great retention and lacing

S- a nice mix of citrusy grapefruit, floral and tropical hop aromas. Some wet leafy notes with a danky aroma

T- the flavor was more tropical than expected, right away pick up some pineapple and guava flavors, citrusy and leafy hops kick in mid-palate and is followed by a nice sweet-yet-toasted malt backbone. Dry and well balanced finish

M- medium body and biting carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and finish, high drinkability

O- a hopped up amber that has superb drinkability and balance. I could get used to this staying in their rotation

Beer looks great on the pour. Massive creme head with a significant degree of lacing. Flavor profile is good. Kind of what I expect to get from Sierra Nevada. Seems to fall off a bit quickly though. I wouldn't mind a more lasting flavor. But what is there is nice and hearty with a slight sweet tang that seems almost fruit like.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint
6.2% ABV, 60 IBUs

A - Gorgeous as all other Sierra Nevada beers are, Flipside has a sexy label to mirror the sexy beer; crimson amber clarity shines from the pint with a tall off-white plume of foam that leaves heavy lace on the glass.

S - Hoptastic, the aroma is ripe with tropical fruit blended with fall earthy notes. Mango, red apple flesh, and sweet pineapple converge on dried grass and leaves, and a faint hint of onion, all backed by toasted amber malts.

T - Flipside's focused hop aroma begins to drift away in flavor, becoming a little more "earthy" than defined, slipping into that realm of "normal" reds. The toasted malt flavor is there and offers suggestions of vanilla and maple for a underlying charm.

M - Smooth maltiness quickly turns to carbonation and lingering dry bitterness from the hops in this red, finishing between an IPA and a red.

O - Flipside starts like a red-hued IPA in the aroma, losing itself somewhere in flavor where it's focused and direct aromas become muddled but, the mouthfeel and finish are a lot more akin to Sierra Nevada's style, bitter but controlled and drinkable.

Pours a deep amber color with a thick off-white head. Pleasant citrus/piney smell. Taste is balanced between piney hops and earthy, roasted malt. Aftertaste is definitely hoppy. Laces nicely on the side of the side of the glass. Carbonation is pretty good. Overall, not bad.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear deep reddish-copper with a one finger light tan head. Slightly better than average head retention and lacing.

The aroma is very piny and resiny with some notes of tropica fruit thrown in. Some burnt toffee notes along with light roast.

The flavor provides a big shot of pine and fruit along with a bit of dankness. Roast is more evident along with some dark caramel. Bitterness is on the high side but it is clean; lingering long after the finish. Medium sticky mouthfeel.

Overall, a really good beer from Sierra Nevada but I don't necessarily like it as a fall sesonal. I reallly miss Tumbler.
