Consumed 11/8/13

Appearance: Clear, nearly dark amber - some lighter, burnt copper tones, and some reddish brown - pours with an average-sized, creamy, off-white head - leaves a few spots of lacing

Smell: Amber malts with some nice hop aromas, but I wouldn't call it hoppy - I've only let this sit for about a month, so I doubt the hops really dropped out - cooked and toasted amber malts, caramel, and bread - some grapefruit and orange flesh, with some citrus peel - some herbal and earthy aromas

Taste: Bread, amber malts, and some nice hops to balance - directly follows the aroma - toasty grains, caramel malts, nicely clean profile - toasted bread, white bread crust, and some biscuits - nice citrus hops, including orange flesh and grapefruit zest - a little pith, some nice bitterness - earthy and herbal, but mostly clean and balanced

Mouthfeel: Medium body, nicely carbonated, smooth, drinkable

Overall: <Insert clever comment about how Sierra Nevada makes drinkable beers>

This isn't as exciting as the description, or as endearing as the label art, but it's worth drinking. Nothing particularly exciting here, but nothing bad, and I approve.

Poured a dark ruby hue with a two finger frothy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured balmy notes of pine and tropical fruit with an earhty malt and burnt sugar.

The taste opened with a fresh piney hop which was quickly complimented by toasted malts, burnt candy sugar and a touch of charcoal at the finish.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style with a lingering bitterness.

Overall a tasty and complex red ale.

A - Pours a deep red with a two-finger off white head. Good amount of lacing.

S - Very faint smell of hops and some tropical fruits.

T - Nice hop bite right upfront followed bye lots of citrus and tropical fruits. Piney hop finish lingers on the tongue.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation. Very easy drinking. Slightly dry finish.

O - Nice easy drinking beer. Not Sierra Nevada's best, but still pretty good.

Bright deep ruby with pocked steady sandstone head.
Plenty of oily orange rind with some pomegranate and caramel on the nose.
Salted peanuts, light toffee and deli rye bread with some toast then hoppy pine, grapefruit and resin, but in moderate doses, along with pepper and grass.
Caramel strawberry finish and slightly pithy linger.
Light, slight cling,

Anything from SN that says IPA on the label and I'm expecting to be punished with hops but that just doesn't happen here. This is especially true figuring on Citra and Simcoe, two heavyweights, which don't show their real strength here - no cat, no mango. Watery body means it's sessionable, and it is autumnal, but it's far from a go-to amber.

Didn't really love Tumbler, but not sure this is that much better.
