1 pint 9.4 fl. oz bottle poured into a Spiegelau glass. No date on bottle unless covered by wax coating. From one-time 2013 offering. Consumed on 10/26.
A - Brownish black with a purple hue. Poured a full finger of billowy light beige colored head. Did not dissipate completely. Left strong bands of lacing on sides of glass.
S - Not very fragrant. Black tea and perhaps some citrus.
T - Lemon and black tea, slightly sour. Bitter tart aftertaste. Hides ABV. No discernible malt backbone.
M - Highly carbonated. Feels clean and crisp with some foaming in the mouth. Medium bodied and easy to drink. Somewhat filling.
O - Pleasantly surprised. Significantly excited my expectations. Has an 85 rating (after 47 ratings), so I was prepared for a marginal experience, but I enjoyed this beer. It's clearly not world class, but the taste and mouthfeel were very nice. Glad to have had the opportunity to try this beer.

Pours a sexy deep dark brown with off white-tan head
Aroma- cheap coffee/ roasted barley, cola, hop resin
Taste- follows with roasted black barley, earthy wet hop resin with citrus, subtle
Coffee, finishes roasted barley and hop resin
Feel- medium-fil bodied, very drinkable
Solid beer, you get the wet hop earthy resiny goodness, really tasty and interesting with the roasted barley. I do miss the normal Estate, but glad I got to try this

Pours a clear black, could be mistaken easily for a dark brown ale filtered and clear looking when help up to the light
smell: roasty malt, dark chocolate, slight hops expected a more hoppy nose on this one
taste: typical of sierra nevada, oxidation up front, followed by hops but quickly over layered by robustness of the black barley and kind of a messy finish a little all over the place
mouthfeel is the best thing about this beer drinks great for the style with perfect carb
overall i would drink it again if offered, but im pretty sure this will be my only purchase of it

750ml bottle $10.49. Dark brown color but not quite black. Aroma has hints of fresh hops but nothing major, bits of roasted malts too. Almost smells like porter. Flavor has a bit of juicy citrus but really tastes like a hoppy porter. I think they should have used the fresh hops for a pale ale to showcase them better. This was also a complete ripoff for $10.49.
