Stopped at this ramshackle road-side cafe on our way out of Christchurch. It's a small patch of gravel right off the main road. Weird. The place looks sprawling and cobbled together, like a growing truckstop. But it had a definite hippy-cafe vibe. We didn't get any food but it looked/sounded good. Ordered a sampler of all 5 of their brews. Not bad, but mostly forgettable (although much better than standard NZed macros). Service was fine. I would stop by again if I go back to the S. Island, but mainly just to see if the beers have gotten better.

It was raining so I took an afternoon trip out to Brew Moon in Amberley to check out this small NZ micro. The pub is more of a rustic roadside cafe with a small outdoor area and some wooden seating inside. The beers are fine but uninspired. Service is friendly but not all that helpful and the staff are should really know a bit more about the 4 beers they have on tap. While I don't expect a huge range from a brewpub, the styles are very limited and it would be nice to have a couple of bottle options too. Given that all of the beers are available in Christchurch it's hardly worth the trip.
