The American market has several hoppy ales that could probably split off from the Amber/Copper crowd and join 7:50, but IPA is a reasonable style choice, especially for its Mexican market.

Pours a clear amber color, brown with ruby highlights around the edge. Head is initially almost white and fairly creamy, recedes quickly to a tan cap and leaves spotty legs down the side.

Very strong hop aroma dominates the toasted malt. Herbal edge to the citric fruit that is so sweet it leans into strawberry territory. Very interesting.

Sharply bitter up front, not a deep flavor but assertive with grapefruit pith and lemongrass. Malts are toasted slightly but bruised badly fighting this level of hopping.

As expected with a beer this hoppy and unbalanced, the mouthfeel is thin. Good carbonation, and actually a touch of creaminess hits before the final aftertaste which is delightfully bitter and zesty.

Many will find this over-balanced on the hops side, but I love Minerva for it. Takes the easy-drinking out of amber ale but adds a great toasty twist to an IPA.

Minerva 7:50 is a clear, solid amber ale with a soft, dense, off white foam that has outstanding retention and lacing. It has a hoppy aroma, with notes of grass, wood, leaves and something a little metallic. There's a touch of caramel or maybe molasses. It has a very smooth, medium body with a crisp, dry finish. It's amply bitter, leafy, botanical with a hint of juniper. It's a little peppery. Something kind of like dark roast shows up briefly at the finish. The aftertaste is bitter like wood resin and citrus peel and just a tiny bit sweet. I'm super impressed. This reminds me of an American IPA from back in the day, like Ballard Bitter or something. Many, many thanks to Christian and Ranferi.
