I think the Pepper Pike Heinen's is one of the best beer stores in the city. I think they turn their beer a lot too, and they are conscience of freshness. The display coolers are huge. Selection is outstanding. Heinen's beer guru and main buyer is located in this store and he is always hanging around to help. He is very knowledgable, but isn't afraid to admit it when he doesn't know something. He is also willing to try to obtain a beer that you want but is not carried. And he is always trying to learn more about beer - even when he's not working, he is happy to taste beer at the Winking Lizard, Beer Engine or other local establishments - what dedication!

Heinen's is always a clutch spot to pick up some craft brew. This Heinen's is my favorite as far as craft beer is concerened. Their beer area is in the back of the store. Lots of space.. usually Heinen's space is cramped up where the beer's at. Great selection! Lots of usual suspects mixed in w/ some beers I'm not used to seeing, i.e. Laughing Dog. The turnover rate seems to be good, so you know most beers haven't been sitting on the shelf for months. Lots of bombers, 750s, 6ers, 4pks. Pricing is right on. Decent single selection which are marked down alot of the times. I once picked up a 12oz Thirsty Dog Cerberus marked at $1.. same w/ Smuttynose products. Service is nice, but if you're looking for help, chances are you will have to ask. Rarely will you see someone standing there to serve those looking at the beer. Great spot, definitely won't let you down!

Probably the best Heinen's I've come across as far as beer is concerned.

I'm not going to rehash what others have said before me, but I will add a few cool things. First, they have every trappist ale that I have seen anywhere, including Rochefort 6, 8 and 10. They had some of the lesser available Stone beers, and also some stuff on a dusty shelf (not refrigerated) from a great local micro called Hoppin Frog.

However, the coolest thing about this Heinen's was that they are BeerAdvocate fans! For every beer that was rated an A- or better on this site, they printed out a little grocery-store sticker with the rating as well as a short description of the beer! I was really impressed, and it actually helped me pick out some of the better beers among the vast quantity of singles that they offer.

Prices were extremely reasonable, and I will definitely be going back, as I only live 10 minutes away. The Warehouse was my go-to spot, but this place was lights OUT!

I was really surprised at the selection available. Lots of diversity, with many brewers and styles well represented. There wasn't much that I haven't had, or don't consider hard to get, but this an awesome selection for a grocery store. Many usuals (GLBC, Bell's, New Holland), but some esoteric finds, such as a rauchbier.
LOTS of singles, reasonably priced. I wish every store did this.
Everything was refridgerated except the seasonal GLBC X-mas, that everybody stocks up on anyway.
I ended up only buying one twelve oz. bottle, because my LBS will keep me occupied for many months to come.

If you live in the Pepper Pike/Woodmere/Beechwood area, you should feel blessed to have a variety of good beer stores to choose from. All of the stores in the Heinen's chain are good places to shop for beer, but this is one that stands out.

The beer section is near the front and just beyond the wine(which is actualy smaller than the beer section). Three open cooler shelves hold the beer, no displays, nothing unrefridgerated. I would estimate about 95% craft beer with 5% macros laying on the bottom shelf, a brief afterthought.

Some of the beer I saw: St. Bernardus (all four varieties), Ommegang, Stone, Rouge, Lindemans, and many other big time domestics. Depite the overwhelming selection, the only local breweries I saw represented was the obligatory Great Lakes. But I can't complain, They have more singles/bombers/750's than 6-packs and 12-packs

The reason for all this has to be the beer manager. He happend to be on the floor when I came by. I asked him about the availablity of such and such a beer, and he proceeded to explain eveything he could about the vendor, the brewery... even how to age/cellar it! But if he isn't around, good luck finding someone who knows a lager from an ale.

There are several good destinations for beer in the immediate viscintity, but I would recommend this place if you have not already checked it out.

I'm really surprised that this Heinen's hasn't been reviewed before mine. It's in a popular area and it has one of the best beer selections I've seen at Heinen's so far and since it's Heinen's, that's saying alot. But first, what the store is like.

It's located not too far off from the Pepper Pike exit off 271 in a very rich neighborhood. It's near the Pepper Pike roundabout and next to a shopping plaza with another small plaza across the street. The store looks like it was one of the first Heinen's around and is small, but when you walk in, that's not the case. The store is huge and like all Heinen's, very clean. The beer is located on the far left of the store near the checkout. Just look for the wine and that's where they keep all of their beer.

I'm thinking like most grocery store with good beer selections, I didn't see anybody around that could aid you with your beer purchases. I'm assuming that if you want someone that handles the beer, you go to the service station and ask for assistance and wait for a while till they come out from the back. What separates this place from others is where if you buy alot of stuff they have curb side pick up. So if you buy alot of beer here, the curb side boys will put it in your car trunk for you.

Like I said before, this Heinen's has one of the best beer selections around. They keep very little of the beer out of these big refrigerators. The only beer I saw out was this display of 750s and 4 packs of different varieties of Unibroue. They even included their new one to the US, Chambly Noir. The refrigerators were filled with six packs, 4 packs, bombers, 750s, and a wide variety of singles. I couldn't believe how many singles they had. They had a wide variety of US micros, imports, and a few macros. Their micro selection consisted of Great Lakes (including their seasonals), Dogfish Head, Rogue, Bell's (including a couple of their seasonals), Founders, Ommegang, Southern Tier, Stone (including some of their seasonals), New Holland, Flying Dog (including their Gonzo porter), Victory, Avery, and even some 3 Floyds seasonals. They were of course much more US micros, but I couldn't remember all of them. Their imports consisted of Franziskaner, Skull Splitter, 3 Monts, Fraoch Heather, Chimay, Lindemans, Xingu, Corsendonk, Unibroue, St. Peter's, Rodenbach, Baltika, O.K. Beer, EKU 28, Weihenstephaner, Rochefort (I only saw Rochefort 8) and even a couple of varieties of St. Bernardus in those small 330ml bottles. Like the US micros, there were plenty more Imports like those beers I mentioned.

The prices were great! Not only were some of the beers priced for what they go for, but some were even priced below for what seen them go for. I saw New Holland's Blue Goat going for $5.99 (The usual price I've seen is usually $6.99) and I think 3 Floyds Dreadnaught was going for $8 ($9-$10 is the usual price for that beer). Please don't quote me on that price. Some places charge a little more for their singles, but not Heinen's. Their singles are priced at cost. A great place to try many different kinds of beers at cost!

If your in the area, then this place is a must! You're not going to get this selection of beers at these prices anywhere in the area! You won't be disappointed by this Heinen's! It's too bad for me that I don't live closer to this place. A Pepper Pike place that you have to see to believe!
