Pours a rich orange with a massive off-white head that lasts the duration. Tons of lacing all over the glass. Rad. Smell of mostly grapefruit and tangerine, some caramel.

Taste is quite hop forward, citrus pith and spicy/peppery hop notes to the fore as well as hints of stonefruit, backed by a soft and unassertive malt base, mostly caramel but it's really not about the malt. Long grassy bitter finish. The ingredients on the bottle list added sugar but the yeast has eaten just about all of it - 6.4% and probably a little drier than most pale ales I can think of.

Soft and creamy in the mouth, lovely. Massively drinkable. Pricey, but I'll probably give it another shot.

La prima ed originale. A 330ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2012. Picked up from Beeritz in Knaresborough. The label on this small bottle is different from the 750ml bottle in the photo; not sure if this is an update or they just use different labels for smaller bottles.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. A rich orange-amber colour with plentiful fine yeast sediment. Yields a small head of white foam that dissipates after a minute or so. Aroma of aromatic hops with underlying sweet malt and hints of yeast; floral citrus notes dominate.

Tastes of spicy aromatic hops with a sweet malt backbone and a dry, bitter finish. Notes of citrus and faint pine, accompanied by brown sugar, honey and dry yeast. A restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and thick, but a little flat. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops and malt.

Nice, plenty of hop aroma and flavour. An Italian beer with American craft roots. The only weakness is the lack of carbonation; this would have improved the sensation on the palate. However, it's a solid and very tasty effort. Well worth sampling.

Cask at Bir & Fud in Rome.

Pours a hazy copper color with a thick one-finger off-white head. The head recedes into a thin layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of grainy pale malts with good amounts of citrus and earthy hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Pale malt flavors augmented by hints of deeper caramel malts kick things off. Shortly thereafter heavy citrus - mostly grapefruit - flavors work their way into things, carrying through to a solidly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with soft carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I didn't have any problems finishing my glass and could have another.

Overall this was a solid pale with nice levels of hops that were showcased nicely in cask form. Worth a shot.

Appearance: Poured from a 330ml newer style bottle. Golden orange light brown, one finger of offwhite caramel head.

Smell: Caramel maltiness, slight lemony hoppiness, a little grassy.

Taste: Moderate maltiness, slight bitterness, a little bit of caramel and lemon zest.

Mouthfeel: Very clean, refreshing mouthfeel. Carbonation dissipated quite quickly after pouring.

Overall: Ok beer. Not very typical of the what I expect of the style. Alot maltier than I was expecting. Refreshing beer.

Pours amber with a massive head that just keeps growing.
Very floral, spicy and plant-like aroma, interesting hop profile. Underneath is soft bready malt.
Similar hops as flavours (spicy, plant-like) with faint clean malt underneath. The hop dominate though. Some alcohol shows too. Quite sharp.
Carbonation is too high.

Poured on tap at Pizza Paradiso Dupont DC.

A very white soapy head is poured and presented perhaps about one finger in size. Body is cloudy, a little dull looking amber with some slow rising carbonation slightly in places. The soapy head manages some lacing in places, and keeps a good solid puck while drinking.

This is an odd one for the nose, but it's a mix of small soft malts, soft chewy hop citrus and pine. The citrus comes out a little later.

Upon quaffing this beverage, it's a bit of an ambush. This tastes "bretty" "like". What's going on here? Dry spice palate and hops with a chewy body. Some mild citrus and spiced like character, it feels somewhere more like a hopped up saison. Slightly carbonated but not much.

Overall kind of weird and interesting. More sugars and some sweetness comes out after some time, but it's a very odd one. Seems more like Bam Biere but not as good in comparison.

Poured from a funky bottle into a pint glass at Ciao Bella in Houston. One and done. Good times with the AON folks.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a 3 Philosophers snifter. Aroma is very unusual...in a positive way. Style is listed as an American pale ale, it isn't. There isn't a style for what this beer is. Aroma is faint in hops and prominent in sweet malts. The malt aromas actually reminds me of the sweetness you get in an aged barleywine of sorts. Taste is also curious, again in a delicious sort of way. Sweet, but not over the top. Mildly hoppy, slightly spicy and very smooth and delicious. Hard to describe to a certain degree. I get the feeling that this one may be just a warm up for My Antonia. Can't wait to try that one soon.
