Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
After the Equilibrista, our beer inspired by the Champagne world, here it is a new experiment on the “wine meets beer” theme. This time, though, we tipped the scales in favour of beer, adding to the Duchessa wort only a 25% of wine must: in this case we used Malvasia (coming from our friends of Tenuta di Bibbiano, as usual), a white, aromatic grape variety which gives the beer a gentle and nice sharpness and an inusual, fruity nose. The beer is bottle-fermentd using Champagne-yeasts, and it has a quite intense “perlage” (bubbles) that makes it perfect as an aperitif or even for the whole meal. The “chaotic” label was designed by Valentina De Luca, an Art student at the Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore Antonio Cederna of Velletri (Rome), who won our contest “Etichette Bizzarre”.

Arrived a bland, dull yellow with no head. Very average. It also had no discernible smell. Tastes warm with a cidery finish. It had an apple hint that was nice and unexpected. There was no bite despite a relatively high ABV, and though there's not a lot of body, the warm aftertaste kicked it up to a 3.5. Overall, the taste was so good that it more than made up for some of the weaker features, and I'd certainly get it again.

On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

Pours a golden yellow, very light, entirely clear, with no head or lacing, essentially still.

Smells like white wine, predominantly, some light funk too.

This is as close to wine as beer can get, luckily, it does taste pretty good. Big lemony white wine flavor, grapes, some funk, a bit of barrel woodiness, small amount of vanilla, green apple, and must.

This is very light bodied, with a lower amount of carbonation, and a wine-like mouthfeel. Very drinkable.

This is one of the more unique beers I've ever had, but doesn't feel a whole lot like beer to me.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. No head, at all, can't even stimulate one. Clear, oily lacing. Body is clear golden with a touch of copper. Aroma includes green apples, cinnamon, some flowers (lavender?), cardamon, green grapes and candi sugar. Taste closely follows the aromas and is slightly tart, slightly sweet, a touch medicinal, slightly mead like. I think this one is unique and flavorful, but I wouldn't go into it with any particular taste expectations. Don't go by whatever style the beer will be listed as because this one can not neatly be placed into ANY particular beer category.
