The beer pours a bright hazy yellow. Very few bubbles. Almost still. Smell is earthy and musty with some lactic fruit. Taste is a bit of nectarine and pineapple. Slightly metallic. Some sulfur. The smell and flavor seems muted, possible because of the lack of carb. Mouthfeel is like water. Really hurts the overall experience of the beer. A decent effort at a sour but the mouthfeel is a real letdown.

a bottle that was brewed in 2009

a clean light golden yellow/orange pour with a finger of head which quickly dissipated. lots of sour and funky notes.. jasmine type aroma usually found in bretty beers, sour cherry scent, lots of wine barrel aroma, and that lactic acid scent is present as well (lactobacillus). this is a very subtle beer up front.. lots of bready wheat and all of a sudden the sour and funk hits you! an almost vinegary flavor from the barrels, cherries, lots of funky brett jasmine/flower petal flavor.

the mouthfeel is terrible. this beer is completely flat. it feels like a glass of chilled wine. thin and watery body.

this is a tasty bretty/sour beer. is it worth the $1 per ounce price tag i paid on an almost 12oz bottle? absolutely not, in my opinion. had it a bit of carbonation, it would've made a world of difference i feel, but the way it was, just wasn't worth it. not for the price. there are plenty other lambics/sours out there just as good (and carbonated) or better.

Appearance: Hazy and golden with no head.

Aroma: Lots of vinegar and green apple. A bit of funkiness.

Taste: Smooth lactic tartness. Quickly dissipating sour character; Not overly sour, but very tasty. Mild fruitiness - mostly citrus

Mouthfeel: Somewhat chalky and light-bodied with no carbonation whatsoever.

Overall: For a 3-4 year-old lambic this was pretty spot-on. I would have preferred a bit more sour character, but it was quite quaffable for a sour.

Brewed in 2009.
Poured a clear bright golden color with no head.
Sharp funky aroma with notes of sweaty horse blanket, oak and apple juice.
Initially with a bold tartness but that fades away quick. Predominant flavor of apples, lime and Portuguese green wine. Notes of lactic, musk, dust, vinegar and bretta. Astringent and acid aftertaste.
Medium body with very low carbonation.
Very refreshing and assertive Lambic. Worth trying.

La Mummia 2009

Pours out fizzy with a thin white head and a slightly hazy gold body.

Green apple, white grape, vinegar, lemon, oak, and funkiness. Quite an inviting sour.

Lots of vinegar and fruit with some wood in the taste.

Light carbonation and a light watery body. Sharp hit of tartness that dissipates as soon as it comes.

Worth a try but nothing you probably haven't already had.

From a 33 cl 2008 vintage bottle brought home from Italy. One of the most subtle sours I've had. Pours almost like a soda, with plenty of carbonation and big bubbles. It has is a slight cloudiness, not surprising as there appears to be a bit of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. The color is golden and there is no lace and only the slightest ring of foam kept alive by the copious bubbles. Aroma is keeping in line with the style, slightly sharp and oakey with sour cherries notes. There is also a bit of maltiness that might be masked in stronger sours. The flavor intensity is also scaled back from a typical sour. Here, the malt plays a bigger part. Yes, there is the woody, tart characteristics you expect, with a well established (but not overdone) bitter finish. But again, the malt comes through. As it warms there is an ever so slight fermenting apple like taste at the finish. Light bodied and packed with a biting mouthfeel from the carbonation, this beer was nice, very approachable, sour.

A: The beer is clear golden yellow in color and has a very slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with just a few large bubbles on the surface that quickly faded away, leaving only bits of delicate lacing on the surface and some small bubbles around the collar.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sourness and oak are present in the nose along with some hints of green grapes.
T: Like the smell, the taste is a little oaky and has notes of grapes and white wine but these take a back seat to a light to moderate amount of sourness.
M: It feels light-bodied and quite tart on the palate with a low amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is rather easy to drink for the style because it isn't too sour and has a nice balance of sourness and tartness.

Incredibly earthy, tart, and mature- the "mummified" taste of Italy's premiere sour ale makers delivers with a decisively clean, crisp, and distinctive flavor profile that prefers clear-cut refreshment over the piling on of complexity.

Its pours is modestly carbonated as it hardly levels with any head character. A few scattered large bubbles plop up, but the embedded carbonation leaves the beer relatively still. With no head or lace, the beer more resembles white wine- especially with its surprisingly brilliant clarity.

Sharply acidic, the aromas are straight up dried limes, dry white wine, cider, grape must, crab apples, and near-vinegar. But then complementary notes of earthy hay, straw, horse hair, saddle leather, and a whiff of sea air waft about the tart fruit character with a whimsical cloud of rusticity.

However to taste, the beer backs off of all that intensity that the aromas promise and relegates to a watery taste that's only a fraction of what's expected. With moderate tartness replacing sourness; faint sod and grass over that of straw or leather; with a dusty taste substituting weathered woods- the taste is a far cry from the excitement that the aromas induce. But a final glimpse of tartness shuts the door on taste, relegating any aftertaste null and void. It's a clean beer for sure!

Super clean, crisp and refreshing- the ale is dry from start to finish allowing only glimpses of grain, wheat and fruit-type sweetness to illuminate. But those impressions of malt and sweetness are just that- "impressions". Any actual weight is forgone and the finish is quick, minerally, and playfully vinous.

I love the beer, but I'm not "in love" with it. Why? Because it promises a high level of complexity and flavor with aroma but is so blissfully timid in its delivery that I feel stood-up on a blind date. Not real sure what to do now?

A: The pour is a lightly cloudy golden straw color with a rather large white head.

S: Quite lactic and tart with only a mild funk to it. Nice grass notes with some lemon peel, white grapes, and green apples. There is just a little bit of oak and must to it, too.

T: Pleasantly tart with notes of lemon and green apple. A slight sweetness of white grape and wine. Light earthy funk with grass and straw, a touch of must and oak. Just a touch of acetic acid.

M: Medium bodied with a pretty high level of carbonation.

O: Gotta say, this was impressive for an Italian beer. I'd actually consider having this again.

A: Pours a brilliant, hazy gold with a minimal white mousse that dies away quickly, leaving a thin ring of white lace around the sides of the glass.

S: Aromas of cider vinegar, pickle brine, sea salt, must, unripened grapes, green apple, unripened pineapple, oak, and barnyard funk contribute to a very deep, complex bouquet.

T: Soft notes of grass, straw, pickle brine, sea salt, must, unripened grapes, green apple, unripened pineapple, cider vinegar, lime, oak minerals, and barnyard funk swirl across the palate. The finish is complex and sour with oak, vinegar, mineral, unripened grape, and musty funk notes in abundance.

M: Very soft and dry in the mouth. Carbonation is initially lacking, but intensifies around mid-palate and lasts through the finish.

O: A very intriguing, interesting, complex sour ale. I am not entirely certain that I would say it is equal to some of the better Belgian sours, but it is definitely close. Probably the most unique sour ale I have tried in some time.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale to medium golden yellow in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and just a faint amount of lemon yellow highlights. The beer has just a few large soapy bubbles that quickly reduces to the faintest of ring at the edges of the glass. No amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of sourness, oak, green apple, and lighter notes of green grape.

T: Moderately sour with some light to moderate notes of oak, green apple, and green grape. Underneath there is an even lighter hint of white wine.

M: Light bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate to strong amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Nice light flavors and aromas of tartness/sourness without being too intense - I found this one pretty easy to drink and very enjoyable.

Pours light transparent yellow with a thin bubbly white head. Nose is very nice, dusty and cobwebs up front, light earthy dirt note with a strong vinous note of white grape and fruity pineapple. Taste is similar, light earthy notes and fairly dusty. Very fruity in back, vinous white grapes, big pineapple and peach with a nice light sourness. Body is very light, smooth and soft with a gentle carbonation and moderately dry finish.

Cask at Moeder Lambic Fontainas.

A: Not much to look at really. soapy foamy head sticks around awhile though, sort of a pale color, very still.

S: Lots going on here; apples, oak, almonds, grapes....a whole fresh fruit basket.

T: Upfront, this beer is similar to the nose. however, the finish is very distinct. VERY earthy; mushrooms, oak, mold, a little funk as well. awesome stuff!

M: quite still from the keg, a little oily but a little dry at the end too.

D: I had about 4 of these in my four days in Brussels. although Im not sure how many I'd like to have at one sitting. An excellent and interesting beer though.
