22 ounce bomber poured into a tulip glass

A: Pours pale orange, it's very hazy, white bright head, lots of lacing, good amount of carbonation, head did not last, soapy film left.

A: Tropical fruit notes, guava, mango, pineapple, tangerine, not getting any malts, all hop notes, smells really good.

T: Like the nose, guava, mango, touch of grapefruit peel on the finish, finishes dry, very good.

M: A little light for a IIPA, could use some more carbonation, dry finish.

O: This is very good, must try if you like IIPAs, tropical notes, dry finish, should have a bigger mouthfeel, but nothing to be disappointed about.

On tap at O'Brien's during SD Beer Week, poured into a pint.

A: Light-orange to yellow in color, creamy. Sudsy pour with lacing all over.

S: Citrusy nose, with tangerine and pine right at the front. Lemongrass, cracker in the middle, smells lively. Booze is completely masked.

T: Flavors follow, citrus pith and grassy, astringent hops at the tip of the palate. Honey sweetness follows, and the booze comes through here. Finished long, sweet, with sticky residuals between sips.

M: Feels light on the palate, but sticks between sips.

Tasty, but not as dialed-in as some of Kern's amazing brews. A little too big for its britches.

On Tap at the Brewery – 11/15/2014
Taster from flight

A: Pale blonde color with some considerable wheat and hop haze going on. Thin layer of paper white foam rests over top before falling out to a halo. Very minimal stick and just a few dots splashed up on the glass.

S: Smells super hoppy with orange zest and sappy pine notes met by a mild dank herb component. I get some of that wheaty grain character underpinned by all the hops. Really nice hop aromatics to this one has me excited to try.

T: Tastes like one hoppy bunny. A real orange pine blaster to the taste buds! Smooth and balanced by this creamy wheat malt texture. Has a vanilla like sweetness to it that plays into the role so well. Nice moderate amount of bitterness and the alcohol completely masked. Probably more IPA than a wheat which works for me. Often times these are too husky and grainy from too much wheat in the grist. The balance here really brings it all together.

M: The mouth feel is very smooth and creamy with a moderate light body and light peppery bitterness midway. Finishes off with a nice drying crisp and a relatively clean exit with some mild linger to it.

D: What more can I say…another outstanding hoppy offering from Kern. Probably the hoppiest Wheat IPA I have come across yet. Heard they might be bottling this one sometime soon. Would love to get another go with this one.
