Pours an extraordinary golden maroon color with a creamy looking medium sized head. Some haziness too, almost opaque.

Smell is extremely floral, lots of big citrus notes with a malty smelling backbone as well.

Taste is very flavorful, tons of malts and tons of hops. A bitter piney finish compliments the big malt backbone quite well. Citrus grapefruit hops flavors with a bitter pine finish. This is quite an outstanding IPA.

Mouthfeel is full and bitter, very satisfying.

Drinkability is great, this seems to me like a great IPA for a warm summer day.

Imbibed at Gourmet Haus for Kern Rover tap takeover, 2/11/13.

Pours a very pale yellow, clear, with thick two finger head. Looks delicious in the nonic it was served in. The head dissipated relatively quickly and lacing suffers as a result. Tr aroma is nothing but hops: grapefruit, lemon, and pine in a Pliny type way with more pine. I get a cracker aroma from the glass with a good swirl. Where the aroma is light the taste plays as shade. Flavor reflects the aroma but it turns very bitter. It's not harsh, but overpowering and it lingers. Lets you know what kind of beer you're drinking. Don't really get much malt from this showcase of hops. Finish is slightly dry while feel is light. Just Outstanding is aptly named. I'd pick one up if I ever see it, but its no Pliny clone an stands on its own.

Aquired from DGB3. Curtsy of review this BIF.

Major thank you to DGB3... totally the major shit on a hook up.

A: The lacing is outstanding. DGB3 hooked me up w/a great pint glass from "Nectar Ales" and the color is just pure amber color. The head was great.

S: Citrus orangy smell and pine.

T: Floral taste w/a pine.

M: Medium body. Med carb. Creamy and Hoppy after taste.

D: I really liked this beer. I could totally sit around and have this all night. Super light and comfortable.

A - Builds a nice lively two finger head on the pour. The head dissipates but a then layers lingers around. The color is a pretty lite amber but cloudy. If I hadn't seen a pliny for comparison this would look better.

S - Nommy citrusy goodness. Grapefruits in there. Lemon and orange peel maybe?. Some pine in there too. Smells good and better than the previous times I've had it.

T- Taste is less than the nose. Less of the citrus and grapefruit, ect with the added bitterness of an IPA. Pineyness is still there in the taste.

M - Very silky for an IPA. Tiny little bubbles softening the beer when you drink. Like it alot.

Overall - Just started doing reviews. Having to think through the various aspects of this beer makes me think it's better than I've considered it in the past. However this weekend I drank it on tap at the brewery side by side with citra and the citra blew my mind in comparison. If not for the side by side this would be higher I think. But that's what side by sides are for :)

Pours into an imperial nonic a deep orange tinged brass color with a large blooming slight off white head atop that leaves multiple broken rings of lace as it settles ever so slowly.Aromas of grapefruit rind and herbal hops over top of biscuit malts.Pretty outstanding flavors with sharp grapefruit and resin-like hops winning out over sweetish caramel/biscuit dough maltiness.A big hopped up left coast ipa,as good as I thought it would be.

Bomber into Bruery tulip.

Beautiful copper color with a huge creamy head. This laces with the best of them.

Big grapefruit aroma - a lot of citrus in general. Some pine/resin and basically no malt sweetness/caramel.

The taste is a small amount of caramel - very small - with a huge amount of hops. Grapefruit, lemon zest, and more grapefruit. Leaves a bitter hop flavor that lingers for quite some time. Very good.

Medium body and and medium to medium-high carbonation.

Very tasty IPA overall. The name is pretty much correct.

Bomber poured into a snifter

A: Hazy orange in color, 1.5 finger white head that has pretty good retention and lacing.

S: Lots of citrus, with the dominant smells being tangerine and grapefruit. There's a little bit of malt sweetness in there at the beginning that comes across kind of like a rye smell.

T: I have no complaints whatsoever with the taste of this beer other than a slight like of intensity on the flavors. If they were a little stronger, I would probably give it a 5. The main flavors are oranges, lemons, and a little grapefruit. There's a nice bitter kick on the end that is by no means overwhelming.

M: Appropriate for the style. Perfect level of carbonation, and sits on the tongue nicely. Aftertaste was pretty good, but could be more balanced.

D: Very high drinkability. This beer tastes good, and it is very refreshing. There's not too much that makes it super unique, but it goes down with no problem at all.

Pour: Deep, hazy orange with to fingers of off white, incredibly sticky head. Very frothy, and hangs around for a long time. Leaves great lacing.

Smell: Huge burst of sweet, juicy pineapple and mango up front, followed by some grapefruit. Next is quite a hefty amount of caramel sweetness.

Taste: Follows the nose with loads of pineapple. Some grapefruit and tangerine as well, but a large caramel backbone comes in and mingles with the citrus fruits through the finish.

Mouthfeel: Very juicy, but on the heavier side for style. Still, clean, juicy bitterness makes this a real winner. Sticky, but in a good way. Drinks like a DIPA.

Overall: A very nice IPA from Kern. Not mindblowing, but a really, really nice change of pace.

Pours golden amber with a pillowy white head that lasts.
Huge floral and citrus hops on the nose.
Flowery and grapefruit hops with enough malt sweetness to save you tastebuds from total hop destruction.
Great carbonation, crisp mouth accentuates the hops.
Yes, incase you you were wondering, this is just outstanding.

Poured into a Spaten Tumbler. A dark and clear orange color. Millions of tiny carbonation bubbles lead to a huge four finger head that is just a hint off of bright white in color and creamy and rocky in appearance. When the head decides it's time to recede I will let you know how the lace looks. It finally does and leaves an amazing cotton candy type effect on the glass.

Smell is a wonderful citrus and fresh blossom onslaught. Orange and pink grapefruit. Some pineapple and mango sweetness is there as well. Just Outstanding does retain just a bit of malt sweetness too to keep it somewhat balanced.

Taste is a bit spicy first and then the citrus tastes come on. Blood orange and overripe pink grapefruit come to mind. Some mild pineapple orange taste shines thru next. All with an impressive malt bill that would make anyone from the East Coast say "hmm?".

Mouth is on the crisp side but very smooth. Carbonation is round to spritzy and the body is medium balanced. Finish is average to long and on the dry side with a bit of alcohol burn.

Overall I really enjoyed this California delight. I have had quite of few bottles of this before now and have enjoyed all of them. Thanks to oya1time for all of these bottles.

Pours a light orange/golden with a 2-finger, foamy white head. A decent amount of layered lacing.

The smell is juicy grapefruit, orange, and piney hops. The taste is rather sweet from the grapefruit and tangerine flavors, but there's a bit of bitter, damp piney hops in the end. The mouthfeel is very smooth, crisp, and a little sticky.

This is a very drinkable IPA. It's not a bitter hop bomb like a lot of IPAs, and that's not a bad thing. This would go well with cheddar cheese or a grilled fish seasoned with citrus.
