Poured into a Sam Adam perfect pint glass.

Color copper orange when poured I got about one finger of white head. Foam didn't linger to long.

Smells of sweet grapefruit and passion fruit.
Hidden pine but very tropical.

Starts off with pine an finishes with passion fruit and a dry tart grapefruit. Well balanced for the amount of hops.

Very drinkable indeed.
I reccommend this one for those that are looking for outstanding IPAs.

Thanks to grze for sending me this bottle... as an extra believe it or not...

A- hazy peach orange color with an "outstanding" 2-3/4in antique white rocky, pillowy head... stuck around a damn good amount... left a superb amount of soapy lacing..

S- Candied oranges, pineapple and grapefruit... so sweet smelling at first... followed by a good hop punch ending in a grassy alcohol smell with the hopps lingering...

T- followed the nose in order as well... great lingering bitterness that wasn't overpowering. Its a good balance and is not one sided.. you get a good sweet citrus hot at first then the hoppiness comes thru and makes you know your drinking an ipa.

M- Creamy medium bodied with a juicy finish

O- Had high hopes for this one and it did not let down.... I had a lot of great, high rated ipa's this year and this one is definitely up there.. would have a hard time chosing others if this was around. Definitely Recommend and thanks again grze

I had this for the first time on tap at the Kern River brewpub and I HIGHLY recommend going there for some good food and great beers (and while you're there do some river rafting, It's a blast!).

For the purposes of this review I'm drinking it from the bomber I got at Valley Farm Market in Spring Valley, CA.

First off, this is a fantastic west coast IPA. I find it to be similar to Sculpin IPA in appearance and taste. It poors a golden amber color and has a nice creamy two-finger head in my New Belgium globe.

The smell is citrus and pine in a very soft way.

The taste is as the smell with a sweet malt balance that adds a tropical, mango flavor.

Mouthfeel is crisp and slightly dry because of the pine notes and nice amount of carbonation.

Kern River's beers are, unfortunately, not widely distributed, but I would encourage any IPA fan to keep an eye out for this one! (and any beer fan to look for all their great brews).

A: Golden-orange with more of a "soapy" head than a thick head.

S: My god, this smell! If it were a perfume, I would lather my body in it and then go shopping at a very crowded mall so everyone could enjoy the fruity, floral, hoppy joy that would be my body odor. It's like a ripe sweet peach or a cold glass of pineapple-mango juice at sunset...there is a nice under-smell of sweet hops and angel's tears. It's that good.

T: The taste is so light and sweet, the hops have no bitterness whatsoever but are present in the first sip. This is extremely refreshing and non-stanky in the mouth. The hop flavor doesn't punch you in the face, but rather, gives you a nice hug. Tasty from the first sip down to the bottom.

M: Fizzy, crisp, and yummers.

O: And how! This beer is something I'm going to wake up in the night craving. It is such a nice balance of refreshing, delicately hoppy, fruity, and magical. You could chug this, sip this, or bathe in this and still have the best time EVAR.

22 oz. bomber,

A: Pours amber with a one-finger white head, good retention and lacing, great looking pint.

S: Bright, sparkling tangerine, papaya, citrus.

T: Relatively light caramel malt, with a very tasty hop character. Orange zest, pink grapefruit juice with concentrated pine oil and cedar in the aftertaste. Great Simcoe hop notes, shades of Port 2nd.

M: Thin at times, but overall a good body, very resiny.

D: One of the best tasting IPAs I've had, as the label says it is just outstanding, you can't sue 'em for false advertising on this one.

Edit - Having a 6 Day old bottle (5/31/10), incredible, rivals Duet, upping the smell and taste scores to 5s, it's at its peak, this is brilliant IPA, shows how important freshness is.

This beer came my way as an extra in a recent trade. The beer was chilled and served in an Imperial Pint glass.

Appearance: Clear peach body with a thick biege head. The head of the beer withstood the mustache test. Thick lacing covered my glass. In short this beer looks super tasty!

Smell: Mango, melons, pine resin, grapefruit very hop forward aromas greet my nose. The malt has a nice toasty thing going on.

Taste: The taste closely followed teh aroma. Nice loads of hops good juicy notes with a nice resinous coating of hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel / Drinkability: Very high marks! Nice slick medium body carbonation levels are perfect. A coating of oily hops hit my palate and didnt let up. I could drink this one beer all night long and be ready to hit another one the next night. Just Outstanding!

Big thanks to Schwaeh for opening this beer at InebriatedJoker's house.

Appearance
This is already exciting. The beer is a nice clear, bright orange. The bottom of the bottle provides a little bit of haze. There is a lot of sticky, white webbing of lace.

Aroma
This is hands down, one of the best smelling beers I've ever happened across. Just Outstanding solidifies the claim that IPAs are the best smelling style of beer. This stuff is LOADED to the brim with juicy tangerine, and I mean EASILY identifiable tangerine juice. Lots of juicy pith. More tropical stuff comes out easily; pineapple is huge as is mango. This stuff is so fruity, fresh and perfect.

Taste
It can only go down hill from the aroma, so I was prepared. Thankfully I wasn't as let down with the taste as I expected to be. There is a lot of pine here, something that evaded attention in the aroma. In fact, pine leads here. Citrus is there in effect, but is more bitter and rindy than the aroma suggested. The center is still very juicy, but this mouthwatering tropical fruit center breaks, giving way to a piny, bittering finish only quelled by plenty of tangerine pith.

Mouthfeel
Very dry and very resinous. The hop oils just stick to everything they touch. This stuff seems bigger than it is and is certainly WAY more packed with hops than any other standard IPA.

Overall
Wow, just wow. An incredible beer. Give this, blinded, to any hop head and they'll think its an Imperial IPA. I really need more of this stuff. Its only fitting that Mike should have spilled his whole glass all over the table.

Poured into a Stone IPA glass

a-golden/amber colored body with a thick foamy white head, nice lacing lines the glass

s-smell is an amazing blend of citrus and some mango/tropical fruits. Even my wife who wasn't drinking it commented on how great it smelled. The aroma is just an explosion of everything 'good'.

t-tropical fruit, citrus, hoppiness. The hops are well balanced which results in a clean yet slightly bitter finish. The taste really is amazing, the bitterness/hoppiness may be borderline for some, but perfect for what I was looking for.

m-light/medium body, solid carbonation, near perfect

d-i could drink this all day long. The only thing holding this one back is that it may be too bitter for some.

overall-easily one of my favorite IPAs, I love this beer. I've had it both on tap and bottle, and can't get enough of it. If you would have told me a few months ago that I'd fall in love with a beer with such a blast of fruity-bitterness I would have said you're crazy. This is an amazing beer and if you love IPAs this should be on your list.

A: Hazy opaque orange with a faint white ring of head.

S: Pineapple, mango, tangerine, the nose is amazing and almost nectary.

T: Really fresh Orange, mango, pineapple, pine, nectary and delicious.

M: Medium bodied and smooth, the polar opposite of the typical harsh IPA mouthfeel.

O: I love this IPA. I wish they distributed their beer.

Fresh bottles from March bottling. The beautiful amber orange appearance is simply just amazing to look at, one of the prettiest brews to linger over. The nose is fresh wet hops, pine, orange, and grapefruit. Fresh JO is simply delicious, a balancing act of super fresh citrus fruits, bitter hops, and perfect malting that is just a joy to drink. The mouth is another exercise in balance, clean, refreshing and crisp, it leaves the palette ready for another sip. KRBC is up there with Alpine in my book for continuous quality and cutting edge creativity. World class ales.

22oz bottle obtained via Growling at the Moon from Solomon420. Thanks for the opportunity.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/4" off-white head over the slightly cloudy polished brass brew. Head recedes gradually, with plenty of sticky lacing. Aroma is piercing grapefruitiness. Taste starts lightly sweet, goes citrus in the middle, then fades to pine which dominates into the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is wow smooth, and drinkability is way too easy. This one is named just right.

had this on tap at the brewery in kernville, ca...

took my raft guides advice and gave this a try even though i was not a fan of the IPA...i would like to say that this is the beer that turned me around on the IPA and now it seems like i can't get enough of them!

pours a nice golden color with a decent head...the majority of what i was tasting could only be described as grapefruit peel, which was great! it is very citrusy on the nose and taste...the girl at the bar did tell me that this is dry-hopped...

so in the end the name really says it all...just outstanding!

22oz bottle poured into a Pint Glass. No visible freshness date...<grumble, grumble>.

A - Pours a beautiful golden orange with a fluffy white head that recedes slowly, leaving lots of sticky lacing. A gem of an IPA.
S - Mmmm...this is right in my IPA comfort zone. Lot's of pungent hop aromas of grapefruit, mandarin orange, pine resin, pineapple, and a touch of caramel sweetness. Very floral and crisp.
T - Similar to the nose, lot's of big grapefruit and pine resin notes, along with the slightly more subtle orange, pineapple, and lemon zest. Again, moderately sweet caramel backbone that provides just enough support for all those hops. Finish is pleasantly bitter, and lingers on the palate for some time.
M - Nice and creamy, with a smooth, medium body and crisp carbonation. Superbly drinkable.
O - An excellently crafted IPA, one I would drink often if I had regular access to it. I think it would be easy to write this off as "CITRA DIPA-light", but that would be a huge mistake, this easily stands on it's own as one of the best examples of an IPA in the market.

This beer is quickly becoming my go-to IPA.

Orange/straw translucent with a great foamy almond head. Good head retention and good lacing.

Smell is at first all tropical and citrus especially grapefruit and orange peel. After the head breaks down, there's a bit of sweet toasted malt peeking through. Very little simcoe cat piss.

The taste follows the aroma with a good bitter bite, which lingers after all the toasted malt and citrus fades. The bitterness, although aggressive, is not harsh - like many similar IPAs.

Mouthfeel is noticeably smoother than most. This may be due to the fact that the carbonation is not quite as aggressive as many IPAs. The beer is dry. Served at below cellar temps, I really enjoy the smooth body with the restrained carbonation - the beer seems to melt away right before the swallow. This makes the beer immensely drinkable. I usually wish beers came in less than 220z bottles. This beer, however, leaves me wishing they sold a 32oz.

For what it's worth, I've had my share of fresh Citra at the brewery and I can honestly say that, in most instances, I would choose The Just Outstanding IPA over Citra. And that's not a knock on Citra at all.
