22oz bottle from j47paco (thanks man!). No bottling date. Served in my Phish snifter.

Pours a hazy orange with a finger and a half near white head. A thin layer remains throughout and deposits big sheets of lace.

Smells of orange, grapefruit and pine with just a hint of malt.

Taste follows the nose. Oranges, grapefruit, pine, grass, cracker and pepper.

Semi oily, medium body, fizzy carbonation. Piney, citrus zest and orange pulp linger in the finish.

The name may be a bit of an over sell but this is a solid, straight forward IPA. Or perhaps as far as the current rating scale is labeled- this is "just" outstanding, not quite worls class.

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass
Dating - none. batch # perhaps

A: Pours a clear straw-pale color with a nice thick lacey foam head.

S: Smells incredible. Bursting with citrus - orange/tangerine aromas and hints of sweet peach/mango.

T: Much like the aroma - get blasts of citrus hop flavors upfront with considerable bitterness on the palate. Finishes slightly sweet but nice light and dry. You realy have to search for the alcohol in this one.

M: Pretty smooth. Slightly sweet and finishes dry.

D: Superb. A really nice IPA - slightly sweet and super hoppy.

Just Outstanding! Now I have had this brew before on tap after a few other hop bombs and did not think much of it at the time. Now sitting down to review a fresh bomber I am quite pleased. A very drinkable, super hoppy IPA which I love.

Hazy golden appearance. Real nice white foamy head. Low carbonation.

Fantastic aroma, just how an IPA should be. If cascade was the first notable hop being sought out by beer geeks, simcoe and Amarillo are in that second group. Yummy citrus and oh so fresh. Malt stays in the background as support which is just fine.

Fresh zesty citrus bitterness sets the stage. Balance is just right with the malt being enough to handle how hoppy this beer is. Bitterness lasts long after the sip is done making this a true hop heads beer.

It's sets the bar high with the name but certainly lives up to the expectations. Kern River does it again.

Bomber poured into a tulip glass. Beer pours a dark hazy orange, bronze color. Initial pour yielded two fingers of off white foamy head, not much structure to it as it started dissipating with large bubbles quickly until only a small patch of bubbles remained and a light collar along the edge of the glass, but there was a lot of nice lingering lacing. Some bubbles can be seen right at the edge of the glass, but this IPA is very very hazy.

Nose is vibrant tangerine, sweetness from the fruit and bitterness from the peels, tropical pineapple, floral hops, a touch of caramel malt sweetness. However, the tangerine citrus hop character is the dominant aroma, and got stronger as the beer warmed.

Following the nose, massive tangerine orange flavors, nice bitterness from the peel initially, then sweet orange, pineapple, caramel and biscuit malts. After swallowing, a lingering floral citrus hops remains for a long time. When I had Kern's Citra DIPA, one thing that really stood out, both good and bad, was how long the lingering hop character was for that beer, and JO IPA has a similar lingering floral orange (orange blossom maybe? I've never had anything with orange blossom extract though) that lighter and very pleasant.

Light to medium body with a slick oily feel and decent amount of soft carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden by the fruity hop character and malty sweetness on the tongue, but I wanted just a bit more bitterness to create a little more balance. However, this is still a very very good IPA from Kern.

Very nice translucent golden-amber color with visual carbonation. Solid, thick 2 finger frothy eggshell colored head with great retention and lacing.

Nice floral, piney, citrus-grapefruit notes on the nose with just a touch of caramel.

Probably the best balance for an IPA I've ever had. Malt to hops blended so well. Nice floral and citrus notes with a touch of caramel malt in the aftertaste.

Very smooth mouthfeel, especially for an IPA. No bitter sting alot of ipas tend to have. Good carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.

Overall I think the name, like the bottle says, says it all. This is now the best IPA ive ever had. I cannot find a fault in this beer Excellent flavor, nose, balance and look. A very easy drink. A must find. So glad I cracked this beer on this hot SoCal 4th of July weekend.

Kern River's Just Outstanding IPA is justly outstanding. Not available in NY, it wallops what is. Ithaca Flower Power, you are on notice.

This baby is clear amber with a thick straw head. Smells of floral notes, malts, and of course blessed hops. Just Outstanding brings a perfect balance between floral hops and keen malts. A solid mouthfeel and a low enough alcohol content to enjoy this one without getting twisted means this IPA is an absolute win. There is a tad watery of a finish, and perhaps not the totally thickest or most complex malt backbone, so while the drinkability is high, I've got to come back to this review to lower it just a tad.

One of my favorite thus far (and in February it continues to be), I'm realizing that between Alpine and Kern River, I may have to just move to California.

Poured into a tulip. Thanks Ben! This pours with a large sticky head. The body is halfway between hazy orange and amber.

The aroma is heavy on the hoppy citrus peel. There is a very slight malt sweetness indicated in the aroma. Nothing too complex, just nice and hoppy.

The taste is a nice balance of citrus peel and a touch of breadcrumb.

This drinks nice and light, with a moderate dose of carbonation.

Really glad to have this one. I wouldn't mind getting more!
