220z bottle, received as an extra from FosterJM, poured into a snifter.

A: Nice, reminds me of a hazy Pliny. Pours a hazy golden orange with lot of rocky off-white head and good sticky lacing. Seems to be well carbed.

S: Pine-y, malt-y, and grapefruit bitterness. It has some of those resinous qualities of bigger DIPA's. The bitter grapefruit and pine shine the most.

T: Follows the nose, good bitterness, some citrus sweetness but its mostly grapefruit and pine here. Finishes nice and dry.

MF: Solid wet mouthfeel but nothing special.

O: Good beer, would have it again for sure. A step below the Pliny I had yesterday and not quite as multi-dimensional as other good DIPAs, but good in its own right.

Pour: Deep, hazy orange with to fingers of off white, incredibly sticky head. Very frothy, and hangs around for a long time. Leaves great lacing.

Smell: Huge burst of sweet, juicy pineapple and mango up front, followed by some grapefruit. Next is quite a hefty amount of caramel sweetness.

Taste: Follows the nose with loads of pineapple. Some grapefruit and tangerine as well, but a large caramel backbone comes in and mingles with the citrus fruits through the finish.

Mouthfeel: Very juicy, but on the heavier side for style. Still, clean, juicy bitterness makes this a real winner. Sticky, but in a good way. Drinks like a DIPA.

Overall: A very nice IPA from Kern. Not mindblowing, but a really, really nice change of pace.

Pours a cloudy orange amber color with a full finger foamy eggshell colored head that fades fairly quickly. A reasonable amount of Belgian lacing in its wake. The smell is good. It has an aggressive floral candied pineapple character. Adequately carbonated, the mouth feel is medium bodied. Full flavored, the grassy pineapple hop taste is balanced nicely with the sweetness suggested in the nose. The piny notes linger significantly. A nice drinker in a sea of options.

Big thanks to Geoi at South Bay. 22oz. Brown bomber poured into an imperial pint.

A: Pours a dark tangerine amber, murkyish. Decent sized head with good retention and lacing.

S: Lots of juicy and fruity hops. Some citrus but not getting much pine.

T/M: Pretty decent bitterness level. Lots ofthe juicy fruity hops with some resins and a bit of pine. Malts definitely balance a bit and maybe a bit more than I'd like. Likely sweet with some caramel and toffee notes. Body is medium or so with good carbonation.

D: Reasonable ABV and tasty.

Thanks to nightwing002 for this as a great extra!
A: light amber/orange. Ridiculously great thick dense head and lacing.
S: nice tropical fruit from the amarillo but the hint of garlic and onion from the simcoe ain't my thing. light caramel/honeyed malts are nice.
T: really well balanced. Medium sweet with a smooth hop bitterness. Juicy hops.
M: medium body. I like the well-carbonated frothy mouthfeel.
O: lose the simcoe, add citra, and this would be killer.

22oz from augustgarage.. thanks as always! Into chouffe tulip.

A- dull copper, amazing snow white head and fire extinguisher lacing. Pretty impressive retention. Sticky icky.

S- Pine sap, grapefruit, some floral notes, a sweet kiss of caramel.

T- Follows the nose, more pine-dominant than I find many Cali IPAs to be... not that I'm complaining. Delicious. A def. bitter citric note, either unripe grapefruit or grapefruit rind, take your pick.

M- Thicker than expected, esp. considering the ABV. Good carbonation.. no gripes here.

D- Fairly high, this one's a real tasty IPA. Worth seeking out.

Good stuff.

Thanks to Kshock for the bonus! Never heard of this one.

22oz brown glass pry-top bottle. No freshness date.

Nice crystal clear amber with big thick white head with great retention. My first thought on the aroma is honey! Big thick wild flower honey. Some faint leafy hops.

Palate is a little sweet and filled with caramel malt sweetness. Leafy hops are spot-on in flavor profile. Pale caramel malt, something like cake batter and a faint herbal note. Finish is moderately bitter, but in no way aggressive. Lingering sweetness.

Decent stuff. If this was around all the time I could see revisiting it.
