22 oz. bomber with no date, but with freshness assured, received as an extra from beerific poured into a Surly pint glass. Thanks man!
Pale-amber hued with good clarity and a big, creamy, "pillow" head. Good lacing and retention. Smell reminded a lot of mangoes at the beginning, but later gave away to pine, and some sweet notes with no particular character.
I don't have the most discriminating of palates and yet I think that this is one of those IPAs that are hoppy, but not good. Is this a case of discordant kitchen sink hopping? Tastes empty with a massively bitter finish and entirely crushed malt backbone, and with no particular hop flavor of the aroma. Not impressed.
Mouthfeel is crisp and the finish dry. But the lack of backbone doesn't work to this ale's favor. Overall, average.
Scores: Appearance 5/5; Aroma 3/5; Taste 2/5; Mouthfeel 3/5; Overall 3/5

1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a New Belgium goblet in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are through the roof given the reputation of this one. That said, I was very disappointed by the last two highly regarded beers I tried tonight (Bell's Expedition Stout & Two Hearted). 6.8% ABV confirmed
Served after a period of rest from the refrigerator. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Pours a two finger beige colour head of nice rolling smooth cream, nice thickness, and good retention for the fairly high ABV. Colour is a semitransparent copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: Floral hops, pine hops, grapefruit citrus hops, clean malts, and cream. An average strength aroma.
T: Floral hops, soap, a bit of salt, some grapefruit, clean malts, and maybe some light pine. I don't know what's going on with my taste buds but I keep drinking IPAs that are soapy and salty. It's decently put together, but I expected far better. Not real well balanced - especially not with those soapy off-flavours. A bit simple. Not real subtle, but nicely clean. Gets better as it warms.
Mf: Smooth, wet, clean, and moderate on the palate. Suits the flavours generally.
Dr: I don't get the hype on this one. Too salty and soapy. I really had high hopes for this beer. I might try it again on draught. Elsewise, I'm content to leave this one on the shelf for people who will enjoy it more. Drinkable but boring. Quite pedestrian.

On-tap at Local Habit. This keg was brought back by the bartender after visiting Kern River a few weeks ago.
a- amber-gold ipa. good head, screams ipa.
s- inviting. olfactory not slammed by hops. reminds me of duet by alpine.
t- again, reminds me of duet. there are a couple of hops working together here, but it feels like they almost zero each other out. you get a bit of bite early, but by the end of the glass it had lost most of that zing. drink colder than warm.
m- fell a little flat on the tongue. a weightier ipa, with thick, slow flavors.
o- this is a beer in a minor key. not a bright, hoppy ipa, more of a cloudy, moody ipa. simcoe & amarillo, but just not as good as alpine's duet.

22oz. bottle poured into a tulip. Thanks to Chris for sharing!
(A)- Pours an orange amber color. Produced a giant fluffy white head with great retention and lace.
(S)- Big juicy citrus with a piney caramel middle. Giant bits of grapefruits. A good hop profile.
(T)- Lots of caramel malt. . lots. Plenty of pine and a mild dry citrus.
(M)- A good carbonation level. A decent balance too. A little underwhelming based on the smell.
(D)- Not bad. Not as good as how it looked and smelled, but still enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brwon color with a big fluffy head that laces down the sides of the glass. Nice aromas of citrus hops mixed with malt in the nose. Medium mouthfeel. Not really a great IPA in my opinion. Some hops and malt taste but not enough of either to make it outstanding. Kind of a let down.

Thanks to Kshock for the bonus! Never heard of this one.
22oz brown glass pry-top bottle. No freshness date.
Nice crystal clear amber with big thick white head with great retention. My first thought on the aroma is honey! Big thick wild flower honey. Some faint leafy hops.
Palate is a little sweet and filled with caramel malt sweetness. Leafy hops are spot-on in flavor profile. Pale caramel malt, something like cake batter and a faint herbal note. Finish is moderately bitter, but in no way aggressive. Lingering sweetness.
Decent stuff. If this was around all the time I could see revisiting it.

Pours a nice amber with two fingers of head leaving nice sticky lacing. First off not quite sure of the freshness on this guy, but i wasnt too impressed. Nose had some doughy malts, forest earth, a little citrus and crystallized ginger. Taste is malty almost too much for me at this "lower" abv for an ipa. Some pine forest - more floral and really just one dimensional bitter hops. Easy drinkability, its a decent beer but just good not outstanding.

Appearance: Pours a lovely, clear copper body with a creamy-looking, lush white head.
Smell: Overall hoppy aroma of pine and tropical grapefruit with only a thin measure of caramel malt lurking in the background.
Taste: Starts with a meager amount of caramel malt flavor and sweetness as well as hints of grain. The hoppy, citric bite of pine and grapefruit follows quick with a solid bitterness that lasts beyond the dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent IPA. For some reason I really enjoy their bottle labels, finding them both odd and amusing.

Very bitter hop powerhouse.
A nice golden amber in the New Belgium chalice. Good creamy head that last nicely and swirls in the glass. Hops hit you over the head. Label says dry hopped with Simcoe and Amarillo. There may be some faint malt. Besides the resiny powerful taste it has a kind of taste like the smell of gravel or rock dust. Bitterness overwhelms.
Well, it proves it's an IPA and dares you to drink it. So overhopped that I am involuntarily salivating, like with an overly hot pepper.

Poured into my new belgium tulip.
Pours a straw yellow with a big thick white head. In the glass the beer is a little cloudy and more orange in color. The hear remain sticky and laces well. The head is beautiful the beer itself is ehh.
The aroma is pineapples and passion fruit. The aroma is all hops and all fruity. not sure where i stand i like it a lot but it seems lacking.
The taste matches the aroma tropical fruits and a slight bitter finish. A tasty brew but it lacks a little definition in the complexity of the hop profile.
I can see how people would love this brew i like it but I'm not in love with it. tropical fruit ipas apparently aren't my thing.

22oz bomber poured into a taster.
Pours a really pale light hazy color with a small white head. Nose is light, a bit hoppy but not over the top, more like a pale ale.
Taste is also like a pale. There at hops but it's not over the top hop. Mouthfeel is a bit chewy and creamy, overall deceit as a pale.

On tap at Blue Palms' 5th Anniversary in Hollywood, CA.
Call the fire brigade! Raul got himself another hot one! And Raul means, tastes like 75 unleaded! It's ok, but what is this hot dog hop?! Dale Earnhardt must be proud because this hot son of a gun must be brewed by NASCAR! Good, but too "rocket fuel" for Raul's liking.
