Thanks to Carlos for the bottle!

Poured into a teku, a deep, opaque, amber-orange color, with a finger or so of foamy white head that sank to a wispy layer, a small collar leaving webs of lacing on the glass. The aroma was easily detectable as soon as I cracked the bottle: dank, citrus pulp and peel, hoppiness competing with a strong, sugary, bready malt scent. In the taste, citrus peel, orange marmalade, hefty bready malts, cane sugar, assertive piney bitterness, and some underripe pineapple. This was a pretty basic IPA, but it was still very good. Medium body; though there was some residual sugar syrupiness, overall it had a crisp mouthfeel with a drying finish, making for a super drinkable brew.

Appearance: a deep orange color. a nice strong haze. two fingers of a white head that fades slowly and leaves behind a sticky lacing

Smell: a noticeable lighter crystal malt character. lots of hops too, full of citrus and pine and florals.

Taste: opens with some citrusy hops that blend into a lighter crystal sweetness. backend moves towards pine and floral hops.

Mouthfeel: lots of bitterness and stickiness. fairly light to medium body. lingering bitter

Overall: a very good ipa. love the hop character that the taste takes on. great hop combo.

Undated bomber into pint glass at fridge temp.

Look: cloudy brownish-orange, very minimal head

Smell: muted honey, grapefruit, confectioner's sugar

Taste: again, muted. Honestly kind of hard to make out any one flavor. Some floral maybe, but mostly just sweetish and bitter. As it warms, more grapefruit, along with a bit of molasses. Still a lot of just straight-up bitter notes, of the sort I associate with a lot of Stone's offerings.

Feel: solid. Felt light to me at first, but really thickened as I went on, with nice carbonation.

Overall: an enjoyable beer, for sure. Not sure it deserved the cloak-and-dagger "back storeroom secret special" treatment it got by the guy at my local store, but good. It's been a while since I had Grapefruit Slam, so I can't be sure, but I think I'd have a hard time telling this one apart from that.
