I recently went to the FS in downtown Memphis. This one out in Cordova is much more convenient – you don’t have to deal with any of the downtown parking or traffic. The atmosphere is very similar to the one off of Beale St., however it’s a much more subdued and laidback crowd. Very relaxed place.

The quality of the place is solid. Lots of good beers on tap, probably about 80 or so, but not quite as many as the downtown location. Great bottle selection to back it up. The service at the bar was excellent. They were very quick to help and offer suggestions. The menu even included food and beer pairing inserts, which seem to be updated fairly regularly. I appreciated that extra bit of attention – shows that they really took stock in their product. The selection was good – a lot of old standards on the menu.

The only thing that was really lacking was the food. They had a very small menu, typical bar food, and sparse at that. At least the beers were good, and the prices were very reasonable.

Big place with a lot of personality and a lot of beer possibilities.

Sit at the bar, in a booth or at a bunch of tables, outdoor space available when the weather cooperates, many TVs with the game on.

About 70 on tap and a LOAD of cans and bottles (about 200!)

Tons of beer related signs and plates on the walls and all over the ceiling, lots of personality …. Easy off the highway with plenty of parking available…busy but well staffed on my visit.

I enjoyed some fish and too many chips and a hazy draft hit the spot….pizzas, burger Sammie’s and various “bowls” all available on the extended menu.

Worthy and lively spot to enjoy some decent food and a huge variety of beer options.

Exceptional beer bar. Long bar on left hand wall seats 15, with a couple of rows of tables opposite it. 70 beers on tap, and even more choices in bottles and cans. Great local options. Friendly service. Had the ruben, the jalapeno kraut took it to another level. Very cool place. A definite Schwarzenegger.

The flying saucer is my go to pub style restaurant in my down time, I love the food and I love the variety of beer they have to offer. They have memberships for customers who dare try 200? different brands of brew for 18 bucks, I might just join! Always a fun atmosphere, waitresses are very nice and usually know what to pick out if you can't decide. It is a bit pricey but hey they've got to make money some how off of the expensive brews so don't complain! I highly recommend

On a quick weekend getaway to Memphis the original plan was to go to the downtown Saucer. But after spending the late afternoon/early evening on Beale Street we decided to head for the suburbs and Cordova location. The place is on a modern suburban shopping street. Big indoor open room and outdoor seating with typically good Saucer atmosphere and cute waitresses. From everything I can tell Memphis is not what you would consider a great beer city, but Saucer manages to singlehandedly raise things a notch with a decent selection of regional distribution beers (Yazoo, Ghost River, Southern Magnolia) and national favorites. Crowd was just what you would expect at a Saucer, lively but not obnoxious, friendly but not in your face. Overall an enjoyable evening. Still have to mention my long term complaint with all five Saucers I've been to - dump the seasonal beer menu. Stop wasting the waitress and my time going through a menu that's effective for three months despite the fact that your inventory changes daily....

We live in Tupelo MS and this is by far the best bar within a 100mile drive. After going to the FS downtown Memphis a few times, we got fed up with the bums, traffic and complete fools on Beale so we decided to try this one. I am so glad we did, I don't feel like I should worry about my car being stolen while I'm having a beer, and the crowd there is a lot more laid back too. The beer selection is slightly smaller then the one downtown but it's still pretty impressive. The outside area is nicely heated during wintertime and inside it's a smoke free area, which is not mandatory in Memphis from what I hear. Service has always been great, the place is clean, the music isn't overbearing and did I mention yet the beer selection is great?

I would love to return to this Saucer one day. My wife, then girlfriend, did a summer internship in Memphis and lived not more than a mile from this spot.

Every other week I would make a drive down on Friday from St. Louis to visit and we both agreed each and every time that there was no better way to end the week than to sit outside at Saucer and have some good food and terrific beer.

She loved their salads and I would generally get some chicken tenders or something else not as good for you.

It was also a unique and unexpected chance to further my beer count in their saucer club. I have 50 of 200 down and unfortunately don't know when I will get to add more.

The service was always a little on the slow side and it could get buggy outside but overall it didn't matter so much, as it was nice to sit out there and relax with one of the hundreds of awesome beer offerings.

If you are less into craft beer, they have the regular stuff too and if you want wine they do have a limited selection.

If you're in the Memphis burbs and love great beer, I would join the saucer club and get it done there.

For those who don't know what the saucer club is, if you join (costs money but you get a shirt) you will get a card to swipe in their computer which then prints out a receipt for the beer you want. The server will take that receipt and ensure the database gets updated with the beers you had. You can then go online and track your progress towards 200, which entitles you to a plate on the wall with your name on it and a party with a nice credit towards beer. There are some milestone prizes too. When I hit #50 I got a free pint. There is a 3 beer limit per night (and no, going from late night one day to after midnight on another does not count).

I knew I was in the right place when I saw the sign above the tappers: Amateurs Ask For Frosted Mugs.

Selection here is extensive, with 60 draught beers on-tap and over 100 bottled beer offerings. Whatever you're looking for, they have it: Bocks & Dopplebocks; Dunkel; Marzen-Oktoberfest; Pale Lagers; Pilsner; Schwarzbier; Vienna Style; Amber Ales; Barleywine; Belgian & Trappist Ales; Brown Ales; English Bitters; Blonde Ales; Irish Ales; Kolsch; Lambics; Old Ales; IPAs; Porters & Stouts; Scottish Ales; Steam Beer; Strong Ales; Wheat Beer; Ciders and seasonal ales on rotation. What's not to love?

The Saucer also offers beer samplers from around the world, brew fusions, food and merchandise.

I stopped in at approximately 2 p.m. and the place was empty. Service was attentive at the bar. Any questions Tara (Carpe Brewski) couldn't answer, she referenced on their beer database and followed-up promptly.

I ordered the Hippie Burger, consisting of veggie patty with jalapeno-pesto mayo, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and avocado for $6.99. Potato salad on the side. In a word, Yum!

I talked to Mark, a regular, while I was enjoying my Bridgeport/Stone Ruination IPAs. Mark informed me that part of the Saucer's appeal is in joining the U.F.O. Club.

By coughing up 14 bucks, you become a BEERKNURD and receive a t-shirt and membership card. Swipe your card at the in-house kiosk and keep track of the beers you consume. Once you drink 200 diferent beers, you will be forever enshrined in the Ring of Honor. He pointed to the ceiling. All the gold plates represented BEERKNURDS who had completed the odyssey. It's a nice incentive to learn about great beer.

Atmosphere was attractive, and food & service above average.
Selection was impressive, although some of the bottled beers seemed a bit pricey.

The Saucer's mission is to "provide this community with the largest selection of quality, hand-crafted beers from around the world." After visiting their Cordova location, I have this to say: mission accomplished.

My only regret? That they don't have a location in Milwaukee.

My first trip to the Saucer here. This is a really good beer bar. Most of what is here can be found in any liquor store from here to Nashville but it is nice to see it in a beer bar. However, everything was way overpriced. $11.00 for a pint of Ruination?? I mean, come on, I can go across the street and get 2 bombers for that. I got a pint of Shiner Bock (yuck!) and a pint of DFH 90 and it set me back $10.00. The Shiner Bock was the special of the day at $2.75. I might go again but more than likely, I will pick up the brew at the store and go home to drink it. Just not worth the money. Service was exceptional though. Very attentive waitresses and they seemed to be very knowledgable as well.

I love the Flying Saucer and I have been to several of them around the country. This is by far the smallest Flying Saucer I have visited. The atmosphere is nice and there is a corner that has some very comfortable couches you can hang out on while having a beer, very nice. The selection of beer is good but when compared to other Saucers it too is somewhat small. I really wish this Saucer could have as good a selection of beer as the Saucer in Nashville, TN (just 3 hours down the road). The food was quite good. I had the goat cheese pizza and it was yummy. Also, they had a sale going on for Yazoo's Dos Perros for $2.50. I took advantage of that but the only down side was that they kept serving it with a lime wedge on the glass, even when asked not to. YUCK!!! Come on Saucer, you guys are supposed to be good when it comes to beer! Also, they had Memphis' local beer "Naked Lion Copper Flask" in bottles. All in all, this is the place to go for good beer while in the Cordova/Germantown area and I do recommend it!

The first time I walked in the place, my wife and I thought it wasn't a bad place for a quick pint. Parking is time consuming if you get there after the movies let out down the street. We enjoyed a few pints, She had a Sam Adams and it wasn't too bad. My choice for the evening was a Flying Dog Doggie style ale. It must be a popular Beer, it wasn't old like I've had in other Bars. Changed over to a pint of Boddington's, again a good pint. The place is mellower than the downtown Saucer. Not too many rowdies there, Which my lovely wife likes alot more than I do. If you're out in the burb's of Memphis have a pint.

The downtown Memphis location is a younger college crowd while this suburbs location caters more to married couples and law kids (a calmer crowd/atmosphere). Outdoor seating is nice, but finding a parking spot my take an extra minute. Things are pretty standard across all the FS locations in Texas, Tennessee and the Carolinas, but this one only opened in the past year, so it is still working out all the kinks. If you are staying with family/friends out in the suburbs, then it is worth checking out, but if you are downtown or midtown, just check out the one off Beale Street. Proven formula for a successful restaurant, you always know you ahve a guaranteed product at any given Saucer.
