2013 vintage, poured from a 650ml bottle.

A: Orange/golden, a bit cloudy off the pour but it settles clear.

S: Smelled is enticing...orange/citrus and floral hops.

T: Sweetness off the top with a slow bitter finish - very nicely balanced. Like the smell, strong citrus undertones, a bit of pine here.

M: Medium body and carbonation, and an oily mouthfeel frame the strong beer nicely.

O: This is a big beer: big on hops and and big on malts. But it is balanced in such a way that both these extremes dance across your palate and neither is overpowering. This is (one of) Half Pints' secret recipes, and is a seasonal beer to reflect fondly upon and look forward to year after year.

A : pours a clean dark amber, 1/2 finger of small bubbled head which hangs around, very healthy lacing

S : pleasant aroma primary of floral hops and lemon citrus, pine, some iced tea sweetness

T : starts of with some sweet caramel right into intense hops and citrus, pine and somewhat herbal, deep hops, minty and slightly soapy, the finish is a resonating hop filled bitterness

M : full body, well carbonated, somewhat oily, smooth, wet end

O : A fiercely hoppy DIPA which i enjoyed every minute of. The aroma complimented the delicious flavors of this beer and at %8.0 ABV the alcohol seemed tame. Overall this was outstanding and one of my two favorite beers from Half Pints.

Huge thanks to tdadiuk for sending us this brew. Bottled August 2013.

A: Pours an exceptionally clear deep amber with 2 fingers of off-white head leaving plenty of lacing.

S: Sweet malts notes upfront of dark honey together with toasted grains or cereal and a slight toastiness. Background notes of earthiness and hints of pine. Much, essential hoppy in the scent than I expected.

T: Here are the hops, grassy, piney and citrus pith. Middle notes of sweet malts quickly followed by a long lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

O: A nice DIPA but slightly less balanced than what I was hoping for. While the malts were very present in the scent, the taste was much more towards straight hops. This would work better in my view if there were more hops in the scent to balance out the malts and the reverse in the taste.

On cask at Volo during the Half Pints cask takeover.

Good-sized white head on the beer, which fades steadily but not totally. Some head remains. Good lacing. Beer is a murky, cloudy amber colour.

Smell is quite full of herbal notes, caramel malt and muted citrus. A bit dank.

Flavourwise, the beer is (unsurprisingly) quite hoppy, but there is a large malt component as well. Citrus, orange, pine resin. Grassy and quite herbal. Alcohol stronger than I would like for the style. Biscuity, sweet malt, with some caramel. The herbal element results in a medicinal flavour, a bit minty. Quite bitter in the finish.

Full bodied, low natural carbonation. Too heavy. Not sure that cask is the best treatment for this beer.

Overall, the herbal characters of this beer and the alcohol heat really hurt it for me. I find it rather messy. Good qualities, but not for me. Would be interested to try it on tap or in bottle, as I do wonder whether it just does not work on cask.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at jmgrub's tasting.

Pours a clear dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt and dank earthy and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with an alcohol kick and a high amount of herbal hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it's quite herbal and dank.

Poured from the bomber sized bottle into a tulip pint glass. MY FIRST HALF PINTS!! I'VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG!

Great shining brass dark amber body, and crystal clear. Head is white, but incredibly sudsy and shampoo like in appearance. Four fingers off the pour but still manages to sit around, little lacing, what is is spotted and scattered thin.

Nose is ripping mix of earth hops first, faint light airy soil. Lingering smoky pine as well, with a nice malt and toasted brown sugar backbone. Solid, it's a DIPA and it's going good so far.

Palate hits with a big malt sweetness and rich hops. Thick body, a bit sugar syrupy though, but the earth component hits like crazy. Huge MINTY finish on this beer, and herbal mint sweetness going on. Little carbonation, through this thick and seriously coating body. Faint prickly sense and incredibly tight and small.

Overall a real good solid DIPA and I love this mint finish on this. Not too boozy either. Well friggin done, would love to have this again easily.
