650ml bottle poured into tulip 15/10/13

A hazed golden yellow with lots of bubbles of all sizes and lots of tiny particles, thumbs width of foam retains well leaving some spider web lace and a couple rings after it fell to a thin film

S big tropical nose of canned peaches, pineapple, mango, and a hint of banana, I get some bubblegum but I've been gum in everything lately, some wheat and faint grass but its mostly big tropical hops

T some pine and lemon rind come out in the mouth, not quite the tropical blast on the nose but still plenty of fruit but with bit more cereal

M lighter side of medium, pin pricks turn creamy, more rind and pine on the finish then anywhere else and just a little gritty

O I rather liked this one, a hopped up wheat beer? sure why not, big nose and not lacking at any point, 4.8%? pass me another

I'm very surprised this one has such an average rating, this is a great session brew at a fair price. Looks like I'm way above the average yet again but this one's overall surprises me more then usual.

Bottle from the brewery. Thanks Half Pints.

A - Pours cloudy and hazy golden-ish. One finger of white head. Good carbonation. No lace in my little hotel glass and a good half finger retention.

S - Smells like Nelson Sauvin. Grapes, grassy, melons.

T - More of the same. A nice fruitiness that is quite complex. Floral. A nice juicy pineapple and/or grapefruity finish.

M - Pithy to finish with a notable bitterness. Strong carbonation, medium body.

O/D - I liked this take on the style. Seems like the grapey and grassy flavours really take hold. Drinkable and tasty.

Appearance - Pours a hazy amber with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - Wheat, yeast, clove, grassy hops.

Taste - Grassy hops, yeast, little bit of wheat. Some spiciness from the yeast and a pleasant bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall - For an American pale wheat ale, there is too much on the hop front. A little disappointing.

650ml bottle, 4.8% ABV, nice to see this make it out west (wester?) so quickly. A hopped-up wheat beer, sure, why not?

This beer pours a crystal clear, medium golden yellow hue, with three fingers of puffy, thinly foamy, and somewhat chunky eggshell white head, which leaves a splendid array of varied snow rime lace patterns around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of gritty, grainy wheat malt, earthy, sassy yeast, and rather pungent orange, and other muddled orchard fruit hop esters. The taste is quite acrid and bitter right off the top - hollow pine and edgy wheat tartness sort of melded together - with a mildly metallic, and generic fruitiness, some pithy fibrous grass, and further earthy notes.

The carbonation is light, and maybe a tad frothy, the body medium-light in weight, and not really that smooth, what with the indistinct hop bitterness and persistent wheat grain astringency floating about. It finishes pretty dry, mostly clean, and well, bitter without a credible source.

A hoppy wheat beer indeed, but unfortunately, it's solely the bittering hops that come across in the 73 IBUs, as opposed to much else flavour-wise. Decently wheaty, sure, but the overall astringency isn't making me want to have another go at this one, which is odd for this brewery's offerings. There's always an exception to the rule, I guess.

Special thanks to kjyost for providing this beer, I'm the lucky recipient of the one he sent away.

A: Pours a super clear pale gold with 2 fingers of bone white head. Nice amount of lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: Musky wet hay together with notes of wheat and yeast. Lacking in a hop presence, no floral, citrus or pine notes.

T: Chewy wheat & grains followed with a pithy bitterness, again lacking in typical hop notes of either pine, floral or citrus. Some notes of muskiness that's not unpleasant, but might be paired well with different hop flavour, other than bitters.

M: Low carbonation with a clean dry crisp finish.

O: Unfortunately I find the bitters interfere with what I think is a delicious wheat flavour.

Thanks again for kjyost for providing this beer as an extra in a great trade.

Bottle acquired from brewery on release day. Consumed that night in a tulip at ~4C

A: Straw yellow and crystal clear, obviously this beer has been filtered. Sigh. Nice fluffy white head though.
S: Tart wheat and light notes of peaches and apricots that come and go.
T: Clearly a wheat beer with a traditional wheat tartness, but for a beer that claims to have been hopbursted with Topaz stunningly little hop flavors and aromas. Clean dry finish.
M: Bright, strong carbonation but with a ton of bitterness. 73 claimed IBUs is way too much for this beer, especially without the intense hop profile that I expected to hide it.
O: An overly bitter clean wheat beer. Meh. Bought 3, sending 1 away. Won't be getting anymore, and that disappoints me as I was expected great and overly hoppy things. For a beer that was apparently intensely hoppy out of the tank (so some people slalomed in social media), I am stunned by how plain this beer is. Could the filtering have wiped it out? I can't say, but I am disappointed.
