I got a sixer of this, not expecting much, more along the lines of "It's Smuttynose, how bad could it be?" Well, I was more than pleasantly surprised by this beer. It's pumpkin pie in a bottle, all you need is whipped cream. The body is a dark, pumpkin-y orange, with a beige head instead of whipped cream. The aroma is nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, pumpkin, malt. I'm flashing back to my grandma working at LaScala's Bakery in the Bronx, right around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Taste is nutmeg, clove, pumpkin and malt, overlaid with a touch of bitter hops, which does a great job balancing the sweetness. Mouthfeel is light and smooth, with a medium carbonation. The finish was mostly hops, with some malt and nutmeg.
I love this beer! This'll definitely make an appearance at Thanksgiving dinner.
