Appearance: Pours a clear amber with a fizzy head that fades quickly; leggy, but not much lacing
Smell: Somewhat oxidized (not surprisingly) with leathery funk, oak and fruit tones - green apple, vinous white wine grape and tart cherry
Taste: Tart green apple and cherry forward with the oak and vinous white wine grape developing; oaky and increasingly tart, through the middle with leathery barnyard funk in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: I have rated this higher than I should, but given the age I wanted to give the brewers the benefit of the doubt; this may have been much better earlier on and it is my fault for letting it sit in the fridge for this long

Bottled in January 2016. Pours a deep bronze color and the head was about an inch deep before the fiddling with the phone to take the pic. It falls to a ring and huge island on top of the large Sam's glass.
The smell is lightly fruit, estery, just a bit of funk. I am getting apple, white grape wine aroma, apricot or peach. Maybe a tad bit of cherry. A little bit of bread flows in the background. It is weak, but it is five and a half years old.
Taste is actually pretty pleasant, not oxidized at all. It maintains the fruit in the flavor - actually fairly strong white wine grape, leaning to apricot for the stone fruit component, and apple. Slight bit of cherry. Not highly distinct, but discernable flavors. A nice level of funk. Slightly tart, and a little bitter, mildly acidic aftertaste with some lingering sweetness.
Medium bodied, well-carbonated.
For a beer with this much age, it is still pretty good. Lightly fruity, but maybe not as bright as it was. Mildly acidic and pleasantly funky.

2016 bottle with a different shape than the one in the picture, 500 ml, drank 02.25.21. Decent enough. Gold color, poured with very little head. Minor brett smell and taste. OK saison, but nothing to write home about.
Also had same beer, 12.7 oz, on 02.24.23. No change in review or ratings.

On tap tonight at the River Road Tavern Tap Takeover.
Came to my stool a fairly clear golden color without much of a head. The aroma is quite fruity and tart with lots of sour cherries apricots and lemons as a well as a hint of bready malt and a slightly earthy aroma. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Tart fruit mixed with a bit of bread and caramel and a hint of funk. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a tart almost puckering mouthfeel. This is a very nice sour ale, I quite enjoyed it, its too bad its taken me this long to find it.

Pours light copper body with citrus, dankness, and wood. Solid Brett work with this brew - very drinkable with good overall balance between tannins and acidity.

a bottle from january 2016, i would have expected a brett beer to hold up far better than this for just a couple of years, disappointing overall, especially for the price. i dont think i have had much funky beer from these guys, not sure how much of it they do, but this one is real acidic, green apple tasting and with a bile sort of tang to it, sharp and estery, just not maturing the way i am used to from brett, i wonder which strain or strains are in here. i get under ripe cherry, white grape, apple skins, heavy tannins, and crazy bacterial acidity on top of less developed brett than i want from this, especially given its age and its name for goodness sake. one thing that i like about it is the carbonation, it really sings and pops, makes the oak seem light instead of the oak making the beer seem heavy, but this wild yeast profile just isnt working for me, and i really cant finish the bottle. i bet this was better newer, it tastes devolved in the wrong direction now, maybe a sad casualty of a dusty poorly located warm shelf. i will revisit this one in a different context. this was not the road soda i was looking for...

Bottled January, 2016.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a light copper body with no lacing and head dissipates down to a small ring after ten minutes. Nose of funk, grapefruit, and oak. Taste mirrors nose very, very nicely. As it warms the funk comes forward a bit more on the nose and palate. Feel is very good for the style and overall, another fine example of brettanomyces yeast usage from Smuttlabs. Cheers!

Not sure if this is truly a wild ale. I think if it as more of a Brett farmhouse ale. Nice, better than good. Pleasure balance of tart, dry, clean and sweet on the palate. Nice job Peter and Co.

A: Pours a reddish orange color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap
S: Light fruit, barnyard, and oak with a definite Brett influence. Granny smith apple stands out
T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the fruitiness, oak, and barnyard Brett influence. Apple, pear, and tannins from the barrels stand out. Moderately tart/sour. Finishes with lingering tart notes and oak
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation
O: A very nice ale that focuses on the Brett. Oak lends a nice hand and helps to round out the base. Definitely worth a shot

Mid sized bottle...thanks to my buddy Pat FD for gifting this to me.
"Bottled january 2016" so this has been in the bottle for about a year now.
Pours dull looking shade of dark orange, minor light kahki film, thin collar and some low tiny bubble sheeting.
Sniff reveals some earthy, bretty, yeasty, funkyness...yum...simply love a funked up brew with brett in evidence.
Delicious stuff, with more and more of the above flavors coming forward.....funky,earthy, yeasty, bretty, more barnyard....tasty, complex and enjoyable...happy to be able to sample this tasty nectar....
