12 oz bottle courtesy jdmcel, thanks!
Bottle dated best by October 2011, so it looks like this one's fresh. Served in an AleSmith IPA style glass.
A - Murky orange with one finger pearl white head. A few wisps of lace and good head retention.
S - A little orange and pine on the nose, but there is an overwhelming skunky aspect that really detracts for me. Some sweet malts can be detected under the rest of the notes, but this one is all hops and skunk (maybe the hops are skunky?).
T - Starts off with light citrus flavors, and then hits with a wallop of bitterness and grapefruit. Catching a few undesirable yeast flavors, but they are overwhelmed by the bitterness. Luckily almost none of the skunky smell makes it to the palate, except just a few lingering flavors in the after taste. Not a lot of malt here, but the underlying sweetness is noticeable. Leaves a bitter grapefruit taste in your mouth for quite a while. Alcohol is masked decently, but still detectable as it might be in a bigger beer.
M - Mouthfeel is good with a nice creamy texture and an extremely dry finish. Carbonation is a little below average, but doesn't detract from the brew.
O - A solid east coast IPA that I would love to try on tap some day. I'm hoping the tap would make it smell better...

With the in-laws coming up from Texas and a house to clean (and a 2 year old to wrangle), I figured some of the finest-rated IPA in the land was appropriate for once things quieted down in my household. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a standard glass.
A- Hazy orange, light caramel.
S- Citrus, most notably grapefruit, orange, lemon, some floral notes as well.
T- Does not follow suit with the nose. Pale malts at first, a hint of grapefruit, with some peppery and earthy notes to finish. That finish is rather bitter with heavy pine notes by the way and lingers quite a bit.
M- Crisp, well-carbonated, I like it!
O- I was expecting more after reading the reviews on the website. Not the worst I've had but definitely not the best, which is rather disappointing considering that Smuttynose puts out some very good beers. The finish is what turned me off the most about this, it was quite acerbic and piney and it just did not do it for me. I would recommend it though, but it's just not my taste.
