Notes/Commercial Description:
You could say, then, that Smuttynose IPA is a physical salute to the glory of the American hop grower. The citrusy hop flavor coming from a mixture of Simcoe and Santiams is pleasantly balanced by a smooth bitterness from the Amarillo hops. The beer itself is light bodied and crisp with a golden color that will throw a slight haze, as we bottle it unfiltered. At 75 IBU's, this is definitely not a training-wheels IPA, but is meant for hop lovers looking to satisfy their craving in a way that's not easy to find. We think they’ll be quite pleased.

What an awesome IPA. This brew has some very complex taste components. I found this to be very refreshing with citrus, pine and malt melded together in just an outstanding fashion. I did find the scent to be faint and not at all representative of how the beer tastes in the glass. If you like IPA's you can't go wrong with this beauty.

good beer....what really makes this beer good....is the taste i have never tasted that many different taste in a single beer before....piney, citrus, candy....the taste is awesome....i read some of the other reviews....this is not a "grapefruit" bomb so to say....they have obviously never tasted sweetwater ipa before...that my friend is a grapefruit bomb!...this is a little more on the english side of ipa's other than it does have some nice american hops in it....the smell is less than impressive i don't really get anything but a soft hop maybe earthy in the nose
overall its just a pretty decent beer...but the taste is very interesting and impressive!

A wonderful IPA. So much interesting hop character. The aroma screams of citrus. The beginning sip has a cascade of hop flavor hit the palate. The malts are around, but not too prominent. So the focus stays on hops. Because its not "an imperial" beer, you can have a few of these and enjoy the amazing hops over and over.

Poured into regular pint glass.

A - Poured slightly hazy golden amber color with small head that quickly dissipated leaving light lacing around the glass.

S - Very citrusy, floral and hoppy. Almost perfect.

T - Starts off with citrus zest and some earthy flavor and immediately transforms into pine hops with a bitter finish and aftertaste.

M - Medium bodied with average carbonation.

O - Very crisp, refreshing and enjoyable IPA. True to its style. I would highly recommend it.
