L: Hazy, translucent, bright yellow with lots of visible bubbly carbonation. The head is huge, fluffy, and bright white--which dies down to foamy chunks and leaves sheets of lacing along the glass.
S: Brightly sour and funky. Passion fruit, lemon zest, bitter pineapple and mango, green apple and pear. Just a hint of crackers and grass.
T: Passion fruit, pineapple, lemon, green apple and pear upfront. Then crackers, grass, straw, and lots of clove. Then lots of funk and mildew. A mild white peach flavor throughout. Finishes bone dry with tons of clove, grass, and straw, and whispers of pineapple and peach.
F: Medium-bodied, smooth and moves rapidly on the palate. Ample carbonation with a clean, bone dry finish.
O: My first Brett saison, so I have nothing to compare this, except that it reminds me of Duvel, albeit with some funky/sour characteristics. A very interesting and enjoyable beer, though.

Had at Cask Republic last night in a tulip glass. Smuttwater is a very cloudy golden flax color with a fluffy three finger with head that leaves nice lacing throughout the beer.
Smell is lovely, you get some light honey sweetness, a bit of saison yeast spice, and a brett note sneaks around. The flavor is similar, some cracker malts up front, bit of honey flavor, the middle has some saison spice and hints of grain. Finishes with a big brett funk and some fruit.
Overall this is a really solid flavorful beer with a big brett note in it. Nice lighter body and somewhat dry mouthfeel. I wish this was part of Smutty's regular lineup because it is quite tasty. To make it better I think I would like to see more saison yeast over the brett.

$ 12.04/bomber ($ 0.547/oz) at Consumer’s Beverage, Lancaster, NY
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into snifter
Aroma faint, slightly spicy, lasts
Head large (Seven cm, controlled pour), white, frothy, slowly diminishing to very irregular frothy ring with legs and frothy partial layer
Lacing fair – partial rings and stalactites of tiny to medium bubbles
Body light yellow, slight haze (bottle conditioned), very effervescent
Flavor – starts with some light hop spiciness – you can hardly tell the Brettanomyces was there; no malt, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate – light, watery, lively carbonation
Appearance 4.5, Aroma 3.75, Flavor 4, Palate 4, Overall 4

Grows on me and complex as you drink it, a "breakfast beer" for me. Funk with good hop bitterness in the finish. Drink it now. Big head that yields funk aroma and taste.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a two finger high white head that has excellent retention properties and consistently left a half finger high head and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of kaffir lime leaves are present in the nose along with notes of Brett funk.
T: The taste follows the smell, having flavors of kaffir lime leaves along with stronger notes of Brett and some hints of sourness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. Some hints of dryness are perceptible.
O: This beer has an interesting, balanced mix of lime leaves and funk.

Pours a beautiful hazy gold with a big foamy pale white head.
Smell is a bright brett funk with some stone fruit and lemon zest.
Taste is as expected, fruit funky brett. There is a slightly out of place savory note in the middle, and the beer is not nearly as dry as I would expect, a hint of sweetness lingers.
Feel is way over carbonated. My tongue burned from the carbonation in the first few sips. Refreshing once it calms down.
Very solid brew, definitely worth checking out.

Fresh bomber served in a wine glass coldish.
Appearance: Pale and cloudy straw colored with a massive and pillow like head.
Nose: tropical fruit, citrus Hops character, yeast, classic Brett character, slightly sweet and malty, ample lacing
Taste: fruity and slightly tart, fruity and complex, Brett funk, bitter hops, spicy from either the Brett or hops. Citrus, grapefruit, lemony, bitter orange peel, sticky mouthfeel, medium body that will thin out with age from the Brett.
Overall: simply amazing, a grand example from 2 great east coast master breweries.
