1 PINT 6 FL OZS.
Bottle Conditioned in 2005
Poured into my Lancaster Brewing Hop Hog IPA glass
Appearance slightly cloudy on first pour (very cloudy on second pour), amber body with a great carbonation rise at pour; cream-colored head pours two-finger thick and has great retention; rather good lace; no particulates to be found
Smell instantly reminded me of a less intense Arrogant Bastard but I retracted that as I smelled on since there is more malt running about
Taste what I imagine caramel would taste like after being seared by an open flame; all of that plus a reasonable hop zing and a bit of alcohol towing behind; pleasant hop edge plus some sweet caramel for aftertaste
Mouthfeel full almost chewy body; coating and a bit sticky; nice hop zing on the edges of the tongue that trumps the carbonation in the noteworthy category; without the cloying sensation, this segment would be fabulous
Drinkability tacky feel at close sets me back a bit but the taste profile helps matters; this onell hit you a bit after closing the deal
Grins. This is a pretty damned good barleywine. Damn the tacky feel in transition for this would be truly a great one.

22oz bottle into a snifter
A: Pours a hazy, nearly opaque orangish brown with 1 fingers width of light tan head. Head dissipates down fairly quickly, and leaves a fair amount of lacing.
S: Typical American barleywine notes with candied sugar, caramel/toffee, a nutty character, and some piney and citrus hops.
T: Fair amount of hops with piney and citrus rind bitterness, coupled with lots of malt flavors including caramel/toffee and burnt sugar.
M/D: Medium body, appropriately low carbonation, pretty smooth, ABV well restrained, drinkability is good.
O: Overall, a really good American Barleywine.
