Pours a clear dark rusty reddish color with a fizzy half finger white head. Retention on the edges of the glass with big bubbles. Juicy and thick sweet caramel malt notes. Dark fruits and figs covered in a burnt sugar glaze. Spicy and slight piney hops with a swirl of the glass.
Sharp and spicy hop notes that strike quick, but leave a dry distinct bitterness on the palate. Has a bit of white wine like feeling in the finish. Fruity and floral flavors get wiped out by an alcoholic sharpness that leads to a clean and slightly dry aftertaste. Hops seemed to have faded a bit and aren't as big and juicy as they might have been fresh. Caramel malt notes are detected. A very clean barleywine without the big juicy malt and hop profiles I was looking for. Still decent, this one packs a punch with it's high abv.

22oz bottle into a snifter
A: Pours a hazy, nearly opaque orangish brown with 1 fingers width of light tan head. Head dissipates down fairly quickly, and leaves a fair amount of lacing.
S: Typical American barleywine notes with candied sugar, caramel/toffee, a nutty character, and some piney and citrus hops.
T: Fair amount of hops with piney and citrus rind bitterness, coupled with lots of malt flavors including caramel/toffee and burnt sugar.
M/D: Medium body, appropriately low carbonation, pretty smooth, ABV well restrained, drinkability is good.
O: Overall, a really good American Barleywine.
