After a recent binge of IPAs I decided that a well-made lager was in order, and since I've been a fan of what Smuttynose puts out I decided to revisit an old favorite...
Pours out the way you'd expect from a lager - light brown body with a generous frothy head. The lager yeasts are present on the nose, with a very light fruit aroma that hints at the hops.
Taste is pleasant. A bit of fruit, though not the usual grapefruit hoppiness that marks Smutty's Pale Ale and IPA. This is sweeter than other lagers I have tried and I must say that I approve. I'm looking at the pint glass and the entire side of the glass is laced with residual sugars, as if to reiterate what my tastebuds already know.
As far as mouthfeel I feel that it lacks a certain body and effervescence. I know the CO2 in lagers usually doesn't jump up and down looking for attention, but given that its body is already light I just think it could be a little bolder.
This is very drinkable. Light body and full taste makes it a perfect session brew, though its sweetness might be overwhelming after a 6er.
