Notes/Commercial Description:
Our interpretation of a classic English beer style is copper-colored, medium-bodied and pleasantly hopped. Its flavor is delightfully complex: tangy fruit at the start, with an assertive hop crispness and a long malty palate that one well-known beer writer has compared to the flavor of freshly-baked bread.

Well, something made me buy a six of this brew over the past weekend after years of ignoring it. Glad I did. This pale ale pours a nice copper color with a one inch head that fades to a lasting cap. Nose is a nice mild malty, bready, hop mix. Where this brew shines is taste. Really good! Competes with Sierra Nevada in my book and that's high praise. Perfect blend of hoppy bitterness, malt and some bready yeast flavors. None over the top---very harmonious. An excellent drinking pale ale that should not be passed over.

12oz longneck
A) Pours with a finger thick head. Tight, beige and settles slowly. Sticking lacing on the drink down. Slightly hazy, bronze to amber in color.
S) Not very aromatic.
T) Roasty, buttery notes. Hints of caramel mixed with subtle citrus. Clean finish, not much in terms of lingering hops.
M) Medium body. Smooth. Slightly dry in the finish.
O) Overall a good brew. I'd definitely have another one.

A: Pours a clear deep copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and some amber + apricot highlights. The beer has a half finger tall dense foamy beige head that reduces to a large patch of thick film covering almost the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of slightly sweet malts with notes of both caramel and toffee as well as a moderate amount of hops - pine/resin and herbal.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of slightly sweet caramel malts with just a touch of toffee sweetness in there as well. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of herbal and pine hops which contribute a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp upfront with a light amount of dryness in the finish.

O: Well balanced between the sweetness of the malts and the bitterness of the hops while still be a touch more flavorful than other APAs, certainly this one was well ahead of it's time. Easy to drink and sessionable.

Poured into a Dogfish Spiegelau glass. Bottleneck says Best By 08/11/14.

A- Pours a dark amber color with a frothy 1/2 inch light tan head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a jagged ring behind.

S- Bready, somewhat sweet aroma. Slightly toasty with a faint smell of hops.

T- Biscuit-like malt balances well against the light bitterness that doesn't set in until multiple sips are taken. More sweetness but it's still mild compared to other pales.

M- Trailing hop bite comes with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.

O- A drinkable pale ale that has a decent amount of character.
