Notes/Commercial Description:
S’muttonator is a tasty mixture of German ingredients & good ol’ fashioned New England tenaciousness. Our brewers take 30 hours to brew a single batch of this traditional Double Bock. Take your time & enjoy its rich, malty & deceptively smooth flavor.

Appearance - Poured from a bomber into a pilsner glass. A very deep, translucent mahogony with a slight orange hue. Large tan head that still has some presence a while later.

Smell - Very malty sweetness, molasses and raisins. Everything I'd want from a doppelbock and more.

Taste - Nothing really takes center stage here, just a lot of flavors really melding and meshing beautifully to create a super smooth, fine drinking bock. Chocolate, caramel, coffee, honey bread. Very thick and full feel. A moderate alcohol taste sneaks in at the end.

Drinkability - This is one of the smoothest, most deceiving doppelbocks I've ever had. It's almost too good. That being said, I'll drink to that.

Poured to a nice dark copper / amber color with a dense tan head with great retention and lacing. Aroma had nice malt and bread notes. Taste had strong notes of malt, bread and some molassas with traces of caramel. Great mouth feel, creamy and full. Aftertaste was sweet and lingering.

Bottle conditioned in 2010... drinking on 7/22/13... is/almost 3 years old.. jackpot pick up a month or so ago.

Poured a amber plum looking color with a 1/2 inch mocha colored head that didn't last long but left a ring. Lacing was watery with magorityl amounts falling back into the beer. It looks very pleasing.

Smell was prune, raisin, date, malt, bread, alcohol (nothing offputting, a good smell)

Taste followed the nose in every aspect... in that order as well... the one things in there that wasn't present in the smell was the bittering hops They used. It was so present right after the malt but right before/in between the alcohol/warmth taste towards the end. It lasted and mellowed out to nearly nothing a second after you stomach it but was present in the after taste.... ohhhh so perfect....

Mouth feel was somewhat heavy and chewy... a Tad overcarbonated for me but also mellowed out as it warmed.

Overall this was a perfect example of the style. If you have a chance to age it, try it at 4 years and see cause there was NO signs of infection in this 3 year old one, Zero... nada.
.. I can see it going to 5 or 6 possibly. I would imagine the malt/prune will start to be more forward with a little bit more mellow on the alcohol. Needless to say this 3 year old one was damn near perfection. Way better when you drink it at the recommended temperature so let it get there before consuming.. I have to try a fresh one to compare but this made my pallet go crazy. Alcohol was non bullying and complimented the balance between the bitterness and sweetness. I'm sooo surprised that this beer still remains perfectly hop balanced even 3 years in. This is an absolute must try for dopplebock lovers but I would be carefull if you aren't into a big.... phenomenally tasting beer..
