First of all, as someone who enjoys tea and who studies herbs for their medicinal qualities, I was surprised to find a beer with a "chamomile" addition. I like chamomile, and I drink it as tea to fall asleep
However, one thing that most people don't understand about chamomile is that people are discouraged from consuming chamomile products if they are allergic to ragreed--and most people with summer allergy symptoms are, which makes this one "summer weizen ale" kind of ironic. However, there is no warning on the bottle. DO NOT DRINK THIS IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO RAGWEED.
Anyway, this beer has a smell and taste that is dominated by this herb. The mouthfeel is great--not as thin as many summer beers. But the taste is just too simple with its wheat and dry chamomile, and some other flavors to coexist with the chamomile would have been nice. This one is just too simple and finishes too dry for a summer beer.
This brewery took a chance with a very unusual brew, and usually when breweries do that they either hit or miss. However, this one is just average, and with so many summer beers available, next time I'll pass.
