Appearance - beer pours a clear ale colour with minimal carbonation, there is a nice white head and some spotty lacing.

Smell - there is a faint bitterness to the smell, i can pick up some wheats, breads and faint lemon tones. there is a slight earthy feel to this beer as well.

Taste - Nice tasting beer, surprising to be honest. very nice wheat/bread taste. i can pick up the lemon very well and the earthy tones generate the slight bitterness near the end.

Mouthfeel - some nice added bitterness and volume here, i enjoyed the added bitterness and wheat.

Overall - nice tasting beer, nothing that will blow your mind or something i'd seek out again.

12 oz. bottle poured into a weizen glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy yellow with a two-inch white head that has some pretty great retention. A pretty good sized head stayed on this beer for the entirety of my meal. Lacing moderate to high.

Aroma: This beer has some typical wheat, citrus, and spice aromas, but also kind of smells like flowers. It's not "floral" so much as "like some nice flowers." Appealing to me at least.

Taste: Great summer wheat flavors. It's heavy on citrus, orange and wheat, and there's that nice chamomile accent. There's also some lemon, malt and spice.

Mouthfeel: Summer-level depth, as you'd expect.

Overall: Among my favorite summer beers I've tried this year. It's relatively simple, but it's really tasty and refreshing and reasonably complex for a picnic-worthy beer. Smuttynose is really good at what they do, and this is more proof.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 9/5/2014. Pours hazy/cloudy bright gold color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, chamomile, wheat, cracker, bread, clove, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale/bready malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, chamomile, wheat, cracker, bread, clove, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy tartness/spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, chamomile, clove, pepper, wheat, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale/bready malt sweetness; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a nice pale wheat ale. Good robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spice, and pale/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle at fridge temps into a weizen glass.

Appearance: pale yellow with a firm head of medium bubbles. Good head retention after 25 minutes in the glass (I had to step away for a few moments).

Nose: Bright and floral hop aroma, almost a bready smell but too faint to tell, some kind of cleaner (PBW maybe but it could be a piney smell from the hops), clean smelling with no (too) off aromas.

Taste: Refreshingly light, slight hops bitterness up front that gives way to the wheat maltyness of this weizen. Crisp; a very nice summer wheat ale.

This is a cross between a sorta hoppy American Pale Ale (APA) and a German Weizen so I don't think it is firmly in either category. This ambivalence makes it an excellent summer pounder though. Good beach beer.

08/12/12 On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. This is a perfectly respectable beer. Perfect body. Polite aftertaste. A true summer quaffer. I'll be researching the possibilities of establishing a keg in my livingroom now tha the air conditioner has crapped out. Smutty Summer may have saved my life...but I'll have get back to you on that, assuming I survive.

12 oz bottle into a wine glass.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful golden color with amazing clarity. I'd bitch about the latter if it were trying to be a proper hefeweizen or witbier, but since it's a regular wheat ale, I don't really care. The head is about a finger high, white in shade. Retention is fine, and the texture is somewhat creamy. A consistent ring of lacing is left on the glass.

Smell: Rather mild. The dominant notes are wheat and a few herbal hops. Additional touches of spicy yeast and flowery tones also come through. A simple nose, but it works well enough for what it is.

Taste: The flavor profile is simple but effective, just like the nose. It starts with notes of wheat and flowers (chamomile), with a gentle kiss of spicy yeast to break up the monotony. It finishes gently tart and dry. Nothing complex here, just a solid hot-weather refresher.

Mouthfeel: Really light and crisp (not quite clean, especially with the dregs in), ergo very easy to drink. Carbonation is intense, cleansing the palate even further.

Overall: Totally respectable for what it is - simplistic refreshment. While I'd rather grab a proper hefeweizen or witbier, I can't deny this hits the spot beautifully right now. It's not an amazing beer, but it's certainly worth guzzl...I mean drinking again.

3.2/5: Respectable (but not great) hot weather refresher

12 oz bottle was poured into a nonic.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a golden straw yellow with great clarity of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Bready and sweet wheat, chamomile, and some grassy notes.

Taste: Same as above with mild bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, refreshing, a little chewy, medium carbonation, and slight bitterness.

Overall: Nice and enjoyable summer beer.

Poured a very light straw with quick dissapating white head, relly liked the aromas really clovey I even picked up a hint of nutmeg in there as well a lighter lemon pith and banana aroma sits underneath the spice. Not a real complicated or complex wheat ale but that makes it pretty drinkable, clovey spice with a hint of banana and toasted wheat malt.A real summer drinker here goes down easy and has some nice flavors.

Nice bottle.

Appearance: Miller lite like body. White head that dissipates quickly. Disappointing.

Aroma: Herbal, spicy, bread, wheat, skunk.

Taste: Skunk, bitter hops, spice, pizzaz, light fruit, phenols.

Body: Crisp, spicy, light, bubbly, coriander seedy, eh.

Drinkability: nil.

Not very enjoyable. Weird.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Kind of a dirty golden yellow with notes of sediment floating. Quick white foamy head. No lacing, clean down the glass.

Smells yeasty with a hidden hint of something - I am guessing that is the Chamomille they advertise.

Taste is malty, notes of citrus - mostly lemon. Relatively smooth brew. Moderately carbonated in the mouthfeel. About what you'd expect from a well made summer wheat.

Solid beer. Definitely drinkable. Good for a deck party in the summer.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume II, Issue V:

German in the name, brewed with a Belgian yeast strain and a blend of continental and domestic malted barley and wheat. It doesn't get any more American than that.

Hazy, dusty yellowish gold color, the haze comes from the wheat and possibly some yeast, though with this sample we had to rouse the yeast pretty hard to lift it from the bottom of the bottle. Bright white crown of lacing adorns the top of this beer with top notch head retention. The nose goes from bread crust to lemony to a faint spicy and medicinal aroma, pretty complex to say the least. The impeccable smoothness is exactly what we were looking for in a summer seasonal wheat beer. Moderately-sized body. The malt peels layers back quickly from doughy biscuits to fresh bread crust, fresh grass to mild animal feed. Hop bitterness takes a good whack at the malt to keep the balance, the spicy character from the wheat following the same suit. Finishes with a lot of complex lingering flavors of lemon peel, medicinal phenols, herbal hop and a thick graininess from the malt. Lands dry in the end.

One of the most complicated yet drinkable summer seasonals, there are so many flavors to deal with yet none come at the taste buds in an aggressive way. Match that with the smoothness and you have a winner.

Definitely just a usa wheat beer, and not any kind of weizen like the name suggests. Since american wheat beers are very average, generally sub-par offerings as it is, I suppose this beer lives up (down?) to that reputation. The smell is off... kind of mildly offensive like a macro lager, but with a touch of citrus on top. The taste is just kind of disagreeable and not very smooth. Nothing shocking or horrible, just not really good. The Budweiser Summer-spiced-heat-wheat-whatever I had recently was better than this. I split this bottle with my girlfriend, and I'm glad I only had 6oz of it.

Tried this just after sampling Magic Hat's Hocus Pocus. This one is better, but that's damning it with faint praise. The beer was a golden color with a medium head. It had an average aroma for the style, citrus and grain. Decent taste, tart citrus, with a little bit of hops. Slightly thin in the mouthfeel department. OK, not amazing.

Presentation: It was poured into from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tall Pilsner glass. The label has a freshness date but no ABV%.

Appearance: The body is pale and hazy with a straw yellow color. It has a nice tall white head on top that has good retention and lacing.

Smell: In the nose I pick up only light hints of wheat malt and pale grain with some citrusy and grassy hops.

Taste/Palate: On the tongue there is some light tangy wheat notes like sour dough bread, pale grain and dry yeast. The hops add light bitterness as well as some light floral, citrus, and grassy notes. The palate is light to medium bodied with a lively well carbonated texture.

Notes: It is definitely a light summer time beer and a good one.

12 oz brown bottle with a best before Oct 07 freshness date. With this sample I swirled the yeast into the glass ... no lemon garnish.

A- This beer has a beautiful head, sticky all around with a semi-stable bubbly lace. Hazed from the yeast in a glowing yellow hue.

S- Nutty yeast and a bready wheat malt aroma. Slightly phenolic and fruity in the nose.

T- Snap of wheat malt and the mildly sharp hop bitterness is a touch spicy, wheat malt character stays on the dry side and clean at that. Bitter phenols cloud out some of the maltiness middle to end. Nutty yeast and a touch of alcohol show a bit of fruitiness.

M- Solid crispness in a moderate body, great mouth feel.

D- Not half bad, I personally think they should have gone all the way and spiced it with orange peel and coriander or used a cleaner yeast.

Bottle pours a cloudy golden body with a tall white head. Delicate sheet lacing is left on the glass.

Aroma is wheat, floral hops, and chamomile.

Light medium body is crisply carbonated.

Taste has a dominant floral hop bitterness enhanced by the herbal chamomile. Twangy pale wheat malt provides a solid base. A hint of citrusy lemon jumps in toward the finish and contributes to a rather pleasant finish.

I'm not a fan of this style but this one is well executed and refreshing. The chamomile adds an appropriate herbal twist that elevates this one above most of its blander peers.

The beer pours a golden color with a white head. The aroma has a lot of wheat and biscuit notes, with some lemon thrown in. The flavor is very similar. I get some bread and wheat, as well as some lemons and a little bit of white pepper. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Nothing too exciting, but not too bad.
