About 6oz from a bottle @ Heinen's Smuttynose VS Sierra Nevada smackdown.
Not a cloudy wheat by any measure, this beer is hazy and has a nice small white head atop a golden banana colored body.
Smell is wheat, clove, a touch of ripe banana. Just a touch too muted, this doesn't lure me in.
Taste was more malt focused than I expected. I would have liked it to showcase more of the wheat and yeast and peppery hops. I thought it was good but, like the nose, would have liked to see a bit more.
Mouthfeel was too insubstantial, even though this should be a lighter beer, it came off a touch too light. Still refreshing and nice carbonation.
Drinkability was nice but I like some other APWA's more. I mean, a beer like Gumballhead is the exception, but it has more flavor in one sip that this entire bottle had. I'm not asking for extremity for the sake of extremity, I just want a beer with a touch more flavor.

I taste every thing from SmuttyNose as a notch above most east coast brewers.
A: For starters in a tulip glass, pours a golden apricot haze as it should topped by a persistent bright white, tight head that lasts and laces. Perfect.
S: The most interesting and aromatic of "summer" ales, Floral, Belgian cross over to German Wheat. Smells of ancient summer fields.
T: Juicy, citrusy, and well malted, this creamy ale is bready, zesty, yeasty - made me reach for the pretzel bread with dinner. Great with food. Finishes slighty acidic and peppery with notes of herbs, chamomile and mint. Very complex while remaining refreshing and subtle.
Medium-light on the palate, it's well carbonated, refreshing and clean.
O: Effortless, yet interesting and complex. A rare gem. Must try. My favorite summer ale.
