Poured a slight hazed burnt orange-like color with a thinner but well retaind white head, alot of different things going on in the nose some lemony tartness as well as some yeasty phenolic notes but not overbearing with lingering hints of iron and herb.In my opinion the flavors are very Belgian-like in its yeasty tones and almost medicinal hop profile with lemon and overipe pineapple tones.I like it not alot of the barnyard funk you get in traditional Belgian saisons wich I dont care for so that was a plus for me,pretty refreshing and substantial at the same time.

Smuttynose farmhouse?... Big Beer Series?
Excellent...

A- Nice fluffy head with slightly rough pour that leaves beautiful thick foamy lacing that grabs the rims of the glass like it owns it. Orange hazy fluid with unfiltered effects showing its true colors.

S- Smells like a combo of nasties and harsh alcohol esters. Nice and full bodied scents of wheat and massive spice.

T-M- Taste is very alcohol tainted with mild notes of wheat and yeasty bite. Excellent farmhouse style. Mouthfeel is a little alcoholic with thick bite of wheaty tongue biting yeast.

D- Very drinkable if you find it but otherwise drink and consume on contact.

This is a very good beer. Plus the label on the 22oz bottle is cool. It was an orange color with a small head and some nice carbonation. It had a sweet spicy aroma. The taste was fruity up front, followed quickly by the spices. Carbonation was excellent. It had a nice bite to it, and I thought it was fairly robust. A great beer to drink; I will be buying many more in the coming weeks.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pint 6oz bottle into an imperial pint glass. It is labeled as "Bottle Conditioned In 2010" and there is no ABV%.

Appearance: It has a hazy orange body with a small one finger white head. The head quickly fades to a thin filmy layer which still makes lots of spotty lacing on the glass as I drink.

Smell: The yeast notes really come though here in the nose. It has both a fruity estery character with notes of orange zest and a funky earthy character with notes of wet earth and light spice.

Taste/Palate: Its firm medium body is loaded with complex yeast notes, boozy sweetness and mild hop bitterness. There are some notes of tropical fruit esters, dry spice and funky earthy barnyard from the yeast. This is mixed with a malty sweet boozy base and there is a good battle back and forth between dry funk and sweet malt with sweetness coming out on top. In the finish I get some hops coming in and adding some light bitterness and dryness but overall sweetness still pulls through on the tongue. Carbonation is active yet still smooth in the overall texture.

Notes: There is a lot going on but the boozy sweetness makes me think more of Belgian Tripel.

Poured a very clear, golden/orangey color with a decent sized white head that dropped off pretty quickly, leaving behind a good amount of lacing. What a HUGE aroma this beer has! Smells of juicy pears, white grapes, maybe a macintosh apple juice, spiciness, some bready tones. Smells amazing. Taste is of white grapes, pears, coriander, yeast, bready, and a tad tart even. This is probably the best tasting/smelling saison/farm ale made in the USA/non-Belgium. Mouthfeel is pretty velvety and substantial. A lot heavier than a Hennepin. Carnonation is fair and perfect for the style. I could drink this all night long. Extremly refreshing and tasty. Smuttynose does it again! Like I said, probably the best non-Belgian Saison/Farm Ale on the market. Wow.

22 oz bomber with vintage year of 2006 on the label.

A- tawny golden color, good clarity with a decent but fading off white lace.

S- Orangey, earthy, hint of nutty yeast, toasted grains and spicy clove makes for a complex aroma.

T&M- Just as smooth as it is crisp, sturdy medium body. Hints of black pepper, clove, and an even medicinal phenol. The maltiness hits a high and shows some stamina against the spicy flavors. A kiss of hot fermentation funk is present, par for the style and not over done at all. Finishes a tad sweet with a mildly hot alcoholic end.

D- I love how Smuttynose embraces a style and adds their own flair to it. Amazing complexities don't take away from the drinkablilty, paired well with beer braised brats and herb roasted potatoes.

Bomber bottle, "Bottle conditioned in 2006", pours a bright orangy, shimmering amber, clear with bubbles slowly streaming to the top. This flavorful brew is topped with a near white head, that initially was puffy and retentive, then dissolving to a film and leaving pleanty of fine, sticky and good looking lacing and sheeting. Nose here is tropical fruit sweet, pepper and floral. Spicy, complex and satisfying brew, lots of pepper, rye, Belgian yeasty, earthy notes. Bottle finishes with a final yeasty pour. Nice saison from Smutty. Bring on the spicy food to enjoy with this very worthy offering.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter.

Pours a light wheaty gold with a big fluffy white head. Nose is funky and sweet.

Taste is super funky and a bit sour but so nice and creamy. Very smooth with some awesome carbonation makes for a great mouthfeel. One of the best beers I've had from smutty in a while!

Poured from a 22oz bomber into massive pint glass of unknowen size. Color is a cloudy golden orange Amber with 2 fingers of head. Head dissapates rapidly to a thin skim fairly nice lacing.

Nose-Citrus, Belgian yeast, floral esters, melon, and pheonals.

Taste- Fruit in the forefront, orange, faintest lemon zest and dried apricots. Sweet, grassy, earthy undertones followed by some peppery spice.

Mouth feel- Pretty good nice long dry finish. This is a must IMO. It is slightly sticky/cloying.

Drinkability is good

Appearance: pours with normal, not Belgian, carbonation. Probably, the bottle can't take more CO2. Nice clear straw color. Small persistent head.

Smell: malt, spices and cotton candy. Hop aroma blends seamlessly into the other spicy aromas. There is something there I can't quite define, sort of the smell of very fresh air after a storm.

Taste: malt, noble hops and the aforementioned cotton candy. finishes with a nice lactic tang.

Mouthfeel: just right. Very refreshing, not cloying as many domestic 'saisons' are. Good hop bitterness dries the palate out just enough at the end.

Drinkability: dangerously high. Every sip is a pleasure. My new favorite 'American saison'. Higher carbonation and a touch more hop aroma would bump the drinkability up to a 5 in my book.

Pours from the bottle a dark and hazy golden color. The head is off-white and moderate in size. The smell is citrousy and grassy. The taste mirrors the smell with a lemony grass tang. The mouthfeel is smooth. A pleasant beer but not one I would want to drink many of in any single session.
