Poured a brilliant, bright, gold with a medium white head. Nice retention and complex, silky lacings.

Aroma is fruity, with wheat, hay and esters.

Sweet fruit up front, with lots of plum and apple. The sweetness is balanced with a very earthy, doughy taste. Some hints of clove and pepper appear throughout. The finish is slightly tart with a suggestion of bitter, though not enough to counter the lingering sweetness. Surprisingly, the finish is not dry in the least.

Nice mouthfeel, medium bodied, perhaps a tad undercarbonated for the style. The smooth flavors and sweetness make this a rather drinkable beverage.

This is a very nice beer but it will lose points if you are a big fan of the style. The undercarbonation and the lack of tartness or bitterness in the end are a bit disappointing for a Saison. Still, this is pleasurable to drink.

You really can't miss with a Smuttynose brew. Not even close to my favorite style, but worth a shot anyway. Served this chilled, in a pint glass, from a twenty-two ounce brown bottle.

Appearance: Smuttynose Farmhouse Ale pours out a slightly hazy, almost straw like, pale golden color. A rather normal pour yielded about a finger of thick, pillowy white foam. Head faded kind of quickly into a thin layer of foam. Some streaky white lace was left clinging to the glass.

Smell: Nice spicey nose on the Farmhouse Ale. Quite malty, slightly hoppy earthy aromas. Lots of in you face spices: cloves, lemon grass, and hints of orange zest. Definitely a strong, fruity Belgian yeast presence. Almost a banana like aroma deep in the background.

Taste: Again, quite spicey. Definitely some big malty flavors, with a faint hoppiness. More of the cloves with hints of white and black peppercorns. Has a sweet underlying fruitiness along with some spicey Belgian yeast. Pretty full flavors with not a drop of noticeable alcohol. I was actually pretty impressed with the flavors of this beer. Like I said before, not my favorite style.

Mouthfeel: Lightish, medium bodied mouthfeel. Moderately carbonated, somewhat thick.

Drinkability: Pretty drinkable brew in my opinion. The lighter mouthfeel really helps drinkability. Another good beer from Smuttynose.

Appearance: nice light golden color, like rays of sunshine captured in a bottle

Aroma: slight orange note, yeasty with a touch malt

Taste: nice orange slightly sweet, excellent hop balance dry finish
abv is well hidden

Mouthfeel: great carbonation, light body easy to drink

This is a really nice beer from Smuttynose, not sure if I would classify as a saison but who really knows what a saison is? It would be easy to session this beer but the abv makes me think thats a bad idea. Nice beer great for the warmer months.
Enjoy

2010 Vintage.
Pours a deep golden color with a decent sized white head that laces all the way down. Smell is fruity, herbal, and spicy. Pears and green apples, honey and bread, pepper and spicy yeast are all found in the nose. Taste is sweet and fruity up front. I get some honey like malt sweetness mixed with bits of pear and maybe peach. She turns spicy in the middle with an herbal earthy peppery bite that then hits with some warming alcohol. Moderately dry finish with a lingering fruity sweetness. Medium body with a healthy level of carbonation and a slick sweetish mouthfeel. I enjoyed this beer, but then again I usually enjoy Smuttynose beers. I think this beer has definitely benefited from the age as I usually find the big beer series a little hot fresh. Great brew.

Pours a really nice apricot color and wow the head is incredible. Foamy and white, super thick and never really receded. Smelled of sour fruit, had some earthy farm smells as well. Tastes sour, sweet, fruity and tart. Medium mouthfeel, and really drinkable for 9% ABV.

Poured into a bowl goblet, revealing ultra thick and airy cream head over hazy frosted gold body. Very prettyful. Some lacing. Smells sweet and slightly nutty, with the appropriate farmhouse funk almost like the Hennepin. Slight citrus, slight metallic tinge, hint of spice.

Tastes solid saison. Some metallic notes, lots of fresh corn and vegetable "funk" character. Slight bitterness, gentle citrus, and solid malt finish. More hint of spice. Mouthfeel is light with prickly carbonation. Medium-light body. Very drinkable, especially just chilled.

Overall I like this offering. Especially on a warm day, especially for the price.

My first from Smuttynose. Pours a hazy golden/orange, some chunkies in suspension, thin white head, some lacing. Smell is sweet, winey, some vanilla and spice, some funk. Taste is sweet up front, vanilla, spices, yeast, bread, funk, flavourful mix. Mouthfeel is full bodied, lots of residual sweetness, low to medium carbonation, quite rich. I liked this one, neat funky flavours. Thanks biegaman!
