Poured cold into a tumbler.
A - Decants a deep amber w/ golden highlights and a tan head. The head is about an inch and a half w/ tightly formed bubbles. A smattering of lace from the head sticks well all the way.
S - An astringent and grain odor w/ a gentle cherry cream scent.
M - Starts off bland, but seems to get a boost of tartness from cherry juice halfway through.
T - A dry grainy texture and taste bordering on astringent is usurped by a tart almost sour cherry taste. There is not much sweetness here, rather a bitey flavor of cherry skin. The taste is kind of tannic, but it doesn't overtake the taste completely. There is a bit of husky grain toastiness underneath it all.
D - I found this to be a decent tasting cherry ale. Not too sweet, but a tad sharp at times. I prefer it to other mainstream examples. I paired this with barbecue and it cut through the grease well. The acidity complements food that is slightly sweet - I could see this going well w/ Honeybaked ham.

12 oz bottle best by date July 2010
Purchased in 2010 did not like it back then. Had one bottle left and a have been avoiding it ever sense. Tired of looking at it in the back of the fridge and decided to open it for fun. Poured a dirty amber with a decent off white head. Noticed a few particles of sediment at the bottom of the glass. The intrepid first sip was a surprise, nice mouthfeel and good carbonation. This tasted like sour or lambic with some nice cherry notes. I thought this was going to be a drain pour, but it turned out to be pretty good. I'm not sure what matured, the beer or my taste?
