I've been eagerly awaiting this beer since November, it was one of the first beers I went out searching for and finally get to try some. Well worth the wait and I'll be out for more of this soon.
Pours an opaque black with clear dark brown highlighting the heart. Thick and full brown head leaves a little trace along the glass as it falls. The nose is packed with dark malt notes - loads of rich, roast coffee with plenty of sugar, chocolate. Hints of dark plum and overripe cherries round out the background. Alcohol notes are very subdued. Smells delicious, rich and sweet. Huge malt sweetness hits the palate before the roast flavors take over, dark fruit alcohol notes are limited. A bit of coffee and hops bittering. Finishes like chocolate covered coffee beans. Full and pretty smooth in the mouth. Subdued alcohol warming for style. A little astringency.
This is a great offering, very full, sweet and rich character, a good example of the style. Worth having around and most definitely worth looking out for.

A - A beautiful black brew, with dark brown highlights, but mostly opaque. Capped with a dark tan head that reduce to a thin line that maintains serious lacing.
S - Mostly roasted malts, with a line of wood and molasses. Underlying this is a strong element of alcohol. Subtle, given the flavor blast to come.
T - Full flavor of roasted malts, with subtle chocolate elements, toasted grains, and mild tobacco and leather notes. Dark bread in the middle, like molasses bread, and a subtle bitter note to close, and a hint of alcohol.
M - Silky smooth, with a full feel, and some mild coating, but the alcohol at the close effectively scrubs the heaviest elements away.
O - Tremendous effort, with a very big, bold brew that manages to deliver imperial stout flavors via the distinct style of the baltic porter.
