A: pours jet black, with absolutely no transparency or any other colors even when held up to the light. It pours a massive 3 fingers worth of head formation that is tan in color and the lacing is ridiculously awesome. After 2 minutes of allowing the beer to sit in the glass, there is still 2 fingers worth of head. The head is extremely thick and foamy.
S: robust coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt are all very well balanced in this brew. I do pick up on some very mild dark fruits and just a slight touch of alcohol.
T: dark fruits make there presence known here. The coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt are all present again, but the dark fruit really make this one enjoyable. Big raisins and figs help balance out the bolder flavors and I get more sweet molasses and a cream finish. There is a mild hop note in there that makes it even more enjoyable.
M: perfect for this brew. Full bodied, chewy, leaves both an awesome sweet sugary taste on the tongue as well as a dark chocolate flavor.
O: this one is damn near perfect for me. this is my first offering by Smuttynose, and this one is very well done. The big foamy head that never seems to dissipate, the amazing balance of its components in both the nose and the taste is great, and the ABV is spot on for this brew.

A - A beautiful black brew, with dark brown highlights, but mostly opaque. Capped with a dark tan head that reduce to a thin line that maintains serious lacing.
S - Mostly roasted malts, with a line of wood and molasses. Underlying this is a strong element of alcohol. Subtle, given the flavor blast to come.
T - Full flavor of roasted malts, with subtle chocolate elements, toasted grains, and mild tobacco and leather notes. Dark bread in the middle, like molasses bread, and a subtle bitter note to close, and a hint of alcohol.
M - Silky smooth, with a full feel, and some mild coating, but the alcohol at the close effectively scrubs the heaviest elements away.
O - Tremendous effort, with a very big, bold brew that manages to deliver imperial stout flavors via the distinct style of the baltic porter.
